Was the 210 million transistor speculation for NV40 just FUD?

The Inq seems to be implying so in that article.
Comments?
I'm leaning towards the 210 million transistor count rumor being nothing more than a rumor started by Nvidia to generate hype for the NV40 and take away sales from R420 (gee, Nvidia's never done that before...) If NV40 is 175 million transistors and only 8x2/16x0/1 then I doubt it'll live up to all the hype surrounding it.

it's no use to speculate when the card is coming in month (or at least will be paper launched).......we will see the specs soon........very soon :p

How is it speculation if they were specifically told the card they were looking at was 175 million trannies?
Sounds more like a statement of absolute fact to me...

I wasn't implying that 175 million trannies is a small number or "not enough", just that it doesn't live up to all the recent hype.
I'm not commenting on actual performance of said card, just the specs.

The Inquirer:However whilst our earlier information indicated that it comprised of 205 -210 million transistors, our sources currently say that what we were holding was a 175 million transistor part.

See? It does not read that NVIDIA said that it was 175 million transistor so it can be easily passed as speculation becose it's not official info.. :D

Ok, who do you think their "sources" are that told them it's a 175 million tranny part, if not those who were responsible for showing them the card in the first place? Do you really think someone just said "here's a next-gen video card, but we're not telling you *anything* about it! muhahahahahaha!"

theinquirer Looks like Nvidia is ahead in the phantom sweepstakes. Rumour has it that the R420 may be announced soon - so hopefully we will all know within the next month.

But it's fun to see the idiots say a then b then argue about which phantom will be best.

It cool to have an online computer tabloid IMO, if only to spice things up. And I've heard that they tend to be accurate when it gets quite close to release dates (not that that is any real surprise though).

No, but I wish people would quit believing all the garbage that the inquirer posts.
