Was Quake 4 any good?

I thought it sucked ass, but that was probably because I had to play it at 800x600 with my 9800AIW. I haven't tried it again with my x850 pro...

I also had a bad experience with marred cd's
 
It was a solid game. It didn't throw anything new at you. If you didn't play Doom 3, play it just to see the engine. Or if you can get it cheap (BB has a $15 deal on it right now).
 
I didn't like it much despite all of the positive reviews ... of course I grabbed it right after it was released for $40 which influenced my opinion a bit, for $15 I would have liked it a lot more!
 
Q4 is a good and beautiful single player game, but is short and requires a high-end card to witness the full beauty. That being said, I think Prey is a bit better and more fun to play.
 
I just picked it up for $10 from Best Buy (thanks to McD's Monopoly game plus the $15 regular price), and I'm enjoying it. My system is choking occasionally (Athlon 64 3300 and X800Pro, or something like that), but I haven't played an FPS in awhile so it's a nice change. It looks great, and I haven't seen one jumping puzzle, which is always a plus. Not sure how much farther I have to go -- I don't think very far.

I'll probably try multiplayer, as I used to be heavily into Q3 several years ago. I'd say it's worth $15.
 
I'm about two hours into Q4, and so far I think I like D3 better. It's not bad, but it's hard to imagine a more cookie-cutter, run-of-the-mill shooter.

Ah, crap, hitting a serious bug right now. I'm on one of the tram levels (finding repair bots, I think), and the game keeps dumping me to the menu screen. I cannot go back to the game I had (it's gone though I can load it from a save), and last night, it even dumped me to the menu where I had the menu choice for "Return to game" though I couldn't select it!

I couldn't find any references to this bug -- anyone else experience it?

It's almost as if the game was written by the guys who actually invented the 3d shooter and everyone else has spawned variations. 😛

I wouldn't say Raven invented the 3d shooter, though they have made some great, influential ones. Actually I'd love to see a return to the Heretic franchise, and I also wouldn't mind an updated Soldier of Fortune game.

I meant id software actually. Raven was picked because of their skill and the fact that they do id games almost like id themselves....ever since the Q1 days.
