The fact that they took the chair back to the conference room shows just how crappy my replacement chair was.

You can get those little cables and lock your chair to your cubicle...

LOL! That chair ain't gonna be there tormorrow.

Better put your name in permanent marker on it (under the seat) and tape a buisiness card to the back.

Normally I don't care much about what kind of desk chair the company has me use. That is unless it's 20 years old, caked with dust, and has unknown stains all over it. This chair was provided to me as a replacement for my previous chair that had an armrest failure (may it RIP). Oddly enough this was one of the only available chairs they could find and nobody else wanted to use it. Golly, I wonder why? So I searched the conference rooms and among one of the many mismatched chairs I find one I could easily live with for 8 hours a day 5 days a week. I replaced the chair they gave me with the one I picked out. I used this newly aquired chair for 2 days. Today I come into work and what do I see sitting in my cube? That fvucking dust mite infested urine stained wonder they gave me before! So I put my things down and promply head over to Office Depot which is just around the corner. I pick out this chair which was on sale for $99. I head back to the office and lug the chair into my cube. It took about 15 minutes to put together. Was it wrong of me to buy my own leather chair for work? Nobody seems to care so far.

Just make sure you chain it to something heavy and/or immovable.

I was going to purchase a chair like the one I have at home for use at work and my TL said I'd get in trouble. I'd planned on using a soldering iron to burn my name into it, and taking it home with me every night.

Office politics are so crazy. But I know where you're coming from. I work for a eleventy billion dollar company yet I sit in a chair from the 70s.

I want the Herman Miller stretchy Dr. approved fancy chair. Can't afford it though.

I agree with everyone that it was okay to buy it, but that you need to take immediate measures to make sure nobody steals it. I'd go with the chain personally, people might claim they didn't see the name.

In all seriousness, I would do what Boomer suggested and spraypaint the back of the chair with bright green neon spraypaint.

Definitely cut your name into the bottom of it. Don't just write it on with a permanent marker, as there are ways of removing that.
Cut it in on the bottom, and try to find some place hidden too where they won't know its ridden. Some people may just scratch out where your name was, and claim it was never there... Then you can so your name written in the hidden spot.

My dad used to write "Stolen from: ..." with his name on all of his personal stuff at work.
