Was it safe to switch off my PSU?

I opened up an nVidia program program that I'm guessing was to be able to overclock my 7800GT card.
And I clicked the "Quick Setup" thinking it was a wizard, and wondering what it would be like.

Instead. it seemed to have loaded something about 75% then stopped, and using my keyboard and mouse did nothing.
Then my screen went black.

So I hit my reset and power button and few times, but they did nothing, so I resorted to switching off my PSU.
Was it safe?
It seems to be working fine now...

Normally I'd hold down the power button for 5 seconds rather than switching the PSU off.

Next time (if there is a next time) try holding the power button until it shuts off

Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do. I wouldn't worry about. Lockups happen from time to time. Moreso with us tweakers.

So I gave up and just switched it off.

Well if holding the power button down didn't work, then yeah I guess that's the next option.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Hi, The only damage in shutting off at the PS input switch would be to Windoze's pride. It may grumble a bit on reboot, but will usually right itself. If any drive was being written to you may end up with a corrupted file, but the damage was done before you shut it down. Luck, Jim
