We seem to have some members who believe there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to kill someone. What do you think?

I guess we could have kept him alive until we dumped him into the ocean attached to an anchor. Only problem with that is his screams on the way to the bottom might have damaged the hearing of some dolphins or whales and then Greenpeace would be all up our ass about it.

He was actively plotting further death and destruction upon our country. We killed him in self-defense, in war. He had declared jihad against us, and he had no compunction targeting masses of innocent civilians amongst us for murder.

It was war.

To be fair, I'll bet even HAL agrees we had the right to kill him.

What I have heard from quite a few here is that celebrating his death was unseemly. I had no problem celebrating his death. I was watching the Phillies game when the crowd started chanting, "USA, USA!" When I found out why, I felt a surge of pride go through me. We had brought lethal consequences down upon this murderer, this hateful fanatic, and I was happy and proud.

I think it's morally wrong to kill someone unless killing them saves more lives or I am hungry and there is no other food around.

I believe those posters are idiots. Time to bust out my favorite Heinlein quote:

"Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. Breeds that forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and freedoms."

I'm a little surprised that they didn't keep him alive for a trial, but I'm not upset they killed him on sight.

I don't think they would have been able to take him alive even if they wanted to though.

No.

But it is morally wrong to bomb and destroy an entire country, kill over 100,000 of its innocent citizens, to kill one man; Especially when that country had nothing to do with the said man's actions.

People are accountable for their actions with few exceptions. He had no excuse and as he was a threat and therefore answered for his actions. In this case the action was warranted.
