Was in a real Apple Store for the first time yesterday.

One of the new big ones where they display all the product info on ipad2s. I was surrounded by blue shirted Apple guys.

so youve been going to the counterfeit apple stores your whole life?

Never been to one actually. Not an official apple store anyway. Been to a few computer stores that only sold apple stuff and had licences from apple to sell it but they were run by individuals not by apple.

Went in one once, to see if I could find a good case for my iPod. The nausea finally drove me out.

Wife dragged me to the Mall over the weekend. I walked past a store that was targeted to 8 year old girls, it was all feather boas, dress up, etc. A birthday party was going on. I looked at my 9 month old, looked back into the store and sneered with disgust.

Ten minutes later I walked past my first Apple store and the same look crept on my face.

True Story.

I've seen one, but would never go in one. A friend might see me or something :^D

Hmm . . . they have decent cases for 11in MBAs?

Didn't look that closely. Probably. Thing is they had a HUGE amount of floor space and like 10 products to show off (aside from accessories). It really drove home how little it is about the products and how much it is a fashion/cultural statement. The marketing behind it all is sheer genius.

I'm too busy to even see what the Store looks like elbowing my way past the throngs of vacuosi(sic) when I make one of my regular trips to get something or other repaired.

No wonder they're making bank though - it's always busy, even when I pick odd hours to drop off or pick up at any of the Stores around me.

I do like the workshops and One To One, not so much the content since it's taught by people who often barely know their stuff (I went for a Logic lesson a while back, and it was like "I had no idea it was there" "Me neither..."), but it's useful in a sort of no-pressure guided feeler way that you might not be doing if you were by yourself. Always wish there was somewhere similar I could go to for Windows-related stuff without having to sign up for a formal training course-like thing (we've got no Microsoft Stores).

@Bateluer A lot of the Stores sell the Specks AFAIK. Works for me, if a little on the heavy side. (takes all-up weight perilously close to the 13-inch - but then the theory is that you can dispense with a sleeve)

And geniuses. Don't forget the geniuses! You should have asked them about the state of string theory research. It's not every day you get to talk to a genius, and I bet they could have given you a good presentation.

Might have to swing by the Apple store here this weekend. Its a bit of a hike, but I need to get a semi-decent carrying case for my MBA. Wasn't impressed with the offerings at my local BBs.

It isn't like they are hard to find.

I don't think there are as many of them in Canada. Vancouver isn't a really small city and this is the first that I know of here, though there are probably 1 or 2 others in the city. Like I said I've been to Apple only stores that had a licence from Apple to just sell apple stuff but they weren't an official apple store. They didn't have the ipads in front of each product with the product specs on them and the tons of open floor space, etc.

I went to an apple store while on vacation a couple of weeks ago:

They actually sold apples.

My experience with a few of those U-pick places are that they often have a LOT of very "wormy" fruit. Which isn't really a bad thing. If I'm going to such a U-pick I'd prefer to see something a bit more authentic with less use of pesticides than you see used at a large operation.

I usually pass on by. More times than not they are so full of lookie loos it rediculous. Stay at home and buy on Amazon. If I really need to see the product first swing by BB.
