A girl that I know, and have been friends with in the past, had this as her away message earlier: "i'm sorry everyone, but this is something i just had to do, i hope that you all understand that i love him, and i literally cant live without him, tell my mom that it wasnt her fault and that she raised me well, but now i have to go. Good bye.......please think of the good times, thats how i wanted things tol be, i love you all, but it is my time to go, just as it was ale's" (ale was a girl our age that just recently died)

It scared the sh!t out of me so I called 911 and theyre sending police. Was that a stupid thing to do?

Look at it this way. How would you feel if you hadn't called the police?

He's absolutely right. You probably should have headed there yourself too...

I didnt know where she lived, and I didnt know her mom's name. After I got off the phone I found out that some of her friends were on their way over there...so I feel kind of stupid...not to mention she came back online a few minutes after I called then signed off, she didnt talk to anyone

it was the right thing to do.

I did something similar for a friend a few years ago... she had just broken up with a long-term boyfriend, and we were talking about it online, and she said something about suicide. a few seconds later, she said goodbye and signed off. I freaked. I tried calling over to her room, but no answer, and since she lived in the all-girls dorm (ultra-high security), there was no way I could get onto her floor. had to call campus police, who went into her room and tried to have a heart-to-heart talk.

she was super pissed at me :p turns out that she was joking about the suicide thing, and she said goodbye/signed-off because the fire alarm went off. I did the right thing, though, and she eventually forgave me (once she finally convinced her RA that she wasn't suicidal and didn't need to be put on a suicide watch).

It's better to have 100 911 calls that aren't serious than to not make a call that is.

Hell, I just called my school's PD for two gunshots a half mile away. Better safe than sorry.

good job but I think anyone who leaves an away message like that is just trying to get attention more than anything. Besides, if she was serious about killing herself, the police shouldn't be able to get there soon enough.

Best of luck!

She's lucky that she has people that care. :)

Yeah, if Alkemyst put up a message like that, when the police went and found his body, his computer screen would be covered with people rooting him on.

Oh shut up. Friends do that type of thing, you know... worry about one another. I guess you wouldnt understand eh?

I had a friend in High School that came to school one day with bandages on both his wrists claiming they were dog scratches... This kid had always been the depressed type, and he's been known to mention how much he hates life. The next day he wasnt in school and I freaked out and told a mutual friend, she in turn went to the adminsitration. Found out that he had been so depressed he got put in a mental asylum for two weeks by his dad.
