was I rude for being a good Samaritan?

I was at McDonalds and saw this guy trying to unlock an old couple's car with a coat hanger...he had been going at it for about 10 minutes when I went out there, did a little coat hanger magic, and got it unlocked in a bout 45 seconds.

I left because its freezing outside, and I really didnt do it for any reason other than to see if I still had the touch. Now that I think about it, maybe the old people would have liked to thank me?

Do you think I was rude for just leaving?

Don't worry about it. If you had ignored the guy and kept going, that would have been rude. I'm sure he's grateful for you helping him, so leave it at that.

Duh, you'd be pissed if your car was getting stolen right in front of you & you knew by the time you made it out there it'd be gone.

You sure it was a Good Samaritan act rather than assisting car theft?

ok guys...just to clarify:

1. The guy was from Fox Motors (he was wearing a coat and hat with their name on it.)
2. I saw the old people out there talking to him while he was trying to unlock it.
3. Before I took off he went inside and was talking to the old people, before I left I unlocked the other door, and rolled down the window. Working in car audio, the first thing you learn is to always roll down the window before you turn off the engine. The second thing you learn is how to jimmy a lock with a coat hanger when you forget to roll down said window.

I don't think that you needed to follow-up with them. Knowing in your own heart that you did a great thing is all that matters. 🙂

what is involved in 'coat hangar magic' anyways?

on old cars u put it between window and upper frame, reach down, hook the lock and pull up

i think it might be viewed as kind of rude, but i do the same thing because i'm just so absent minded. i'll help out someone, and then continue walking away w/o stopping to talk to them as people generally do.
