In reading it, I would have gone on with the deal since he was willing to ship first.

But then, I'm not nearly as an experienced trader as you. If something about it scared you off, better to be safe than sorry.

Sorry, but I see nothing wrong with what the seller said.

In FS/FT you are not dealing with people who are trained to treat customers courteously. These are regular guys, some of them really young and most of them plain ole' geeks like you and me ;) Plus, text-based chat really does not convey the tone accurately. You were right to back out when you didn't feel comfortable with it. With 131 +ves I am frankly surprised you were able to be so picky and still get to do so many deals :) But in your shoes, if the deal was good for me, I would've gone through with it.

On the flip side,
I'm sorry, you have too little heat and I will not pay first.
If this means anything to you, I have 131 positives, 0 negatives under psteng19.
LMK, thanks.

...this is not the way to put the point across to a new trader :( I've had people ask me to ship first and they've always been polite about it. It was silly of him to "prefer payment first" even after you asked him to look at your evals. But from the conversation that you've posted here, your attitude was, in fact, worse than his!

How long between these two posts?
Him
well, either way, just give me the address and i'll ship it today. as of whether you want to pay today or after you receive the package on monday it's up to you. not my problem.

Me
Sorry, I'll pass on the deal now.
Good luck.

That may be important as well. The guy thought he had a deal. I don't see anything wrong with his reply. An overreaction on your part.

i dont really see anthing wrong it what he said, especially the second pm you say started to make you uneasy. He basically complied, and as far as saying "alright alright", it A) doesnt sound wrong to me at all and B) could have just been a catchphrase he uses in his everyday speech.

Absolutely out of line. He said he'd ship first and you could pay when you wanted. Therefore, you bore no risk.

Good luck.

IIRC (PM's been deleted now), there was maybe 15 minutes between those IM's.

A couple of times, I may have come off rudely as well (I was packing and ready to leave work in a rush, so I had to be quick with my PM's).

In all my days of trading, I must admit this was the most "rude" it's gotten (I know some of you may NOT consider this rude, but relatively speaking, his speech/attitude was quite rude I thought - everyone else has been very nice :D).
I can just imagine someone speaking to me, "alright, alright" "not my problem" with the reluctant tone of voice.

It was just one of those hunches I got, where if the item arrives damaged, or lost, it would require a heck of a lot to resolve.
I'd rather miss out on a deal than to be in one of those situations.
