OMG NOO!!!! I'm standing right next to the buttons and I can't raise my arm to press a button!!!

I don't like reaching near people if I don't have to. And if you reached too near, she might have had to move out of the way. Moving a body weighing over 100lbs takes more energy than moving an arm.
Really, I've pushed plenty of buttons, and most of them are designed to be easy to use. There's not much to it. I don't know why she would have been so pissed off about something so simplistic.

She was being a bitch and you should have responded that you did not want her to have to move her fat ass out of the way to get to the buttons.

She was being a b!tch. However, I almost guarantee had you reached in front of her fat ass to push your button, she should would have gotten mad at you and cussed you out for not telling her to press the button for you.

"Sorry - if your fat ass wasn't in the way, I would have pushed it myself. Got on a diet, you fat slob! Sheesh, Fattie McFatalot."

That'd make you feel better about it. ;)

There is the difference right there. You always offer. She didn't offer to press the button. Therefore she felt insulted when you assumed she was going to do what you asked.

Don't get me wrong. She was way more rude than you were. you said "please" and "Thank you".

Edit: Punctuation

Sounds like you were giving an order in a way that made her sound obligated. Instead of showing her repsect for doing a nice thing. Even in a resteraunt servers get more respect than that. "water please". Think of how that sounds. Instead of "excuse me miss can I get a water please". "thankyou" *smile. I'm not an overly sensitive person by any means but I to would have been botherd by the way it was said. I know you didn't mean to but ovviously it came across that way.

You should have said "can you push three for me please". "thankyou"

She shouldn't have flipped out but I to would have been annoyed at how it was said too.

Further proof that people outside of New York City have ZERO elevator etiquette.

Not really. I'm born and raised the hospitable South, and "3rd floor, please," if said in a congenial manner, rather than a gruff and demanding one, would be a perfectly acceptable request.

You just have to realize that there are snooty, fvcked-up, rude bitches in this world - both male and female. Shrug your shoulders and get over it.

I should have also pointed out that this happened in Baltimore. I go to the University of Baltimore.

However, she way over reacted and was being a bitch.

Yep.
