Was I being an ass, or was I justified.

There was a football game today between my school and U of M. Two of my roommates (cousins, though they seem like they are about to screw every time I see them) invited three people over last night, who came in drunk, and about six or seven today to watch the football game (on my TV nonetheless). They were extremely rude, rowdy, and even spilled plant soil on my stereo speaker.

They didn't tell me, or my other roommate, that anyone was coming over this weekend. (As an aside, I have three papers due next week and because of the football game couldn't go to the library.) For further background knowledge I must also note that they have been leaving rude, passive-aggressive post-its around they house over little things, some asinine (such as: Don't turn on the air conditioner. It gets cold in here. You can open your window if you are hot. -- This in 70+ weather.)

I left a note pasted on the door to their wing of the apartment asking them not to invite large groups of friends over in the future without notifying the rest of us. I also added, "That would be the exact opposite of the rude thing to do."

I told my mom, and she suggested that I move my television and stereo into my room, as they are now in the living room. I almost never get to use them either, as the the cousins watch TV gratuitously. One of them also has a TV in his room. I am probably going to follow up on this suggestion the next time they aren't home.

You weren't being an ass, but it would have been better to talk to them face to face than to use a note. People are more likely to get pissed over a note than a discussion.

Well, I left the note because they have been leaving them. I even got screamed at by one of them after asking who wrote one of the notes, as I was wondering, when I wasn't the one responsible for the problems relating to the note.

You were being an ass. What are you, 10? TALK to your roommates.

Understand that the price for sharing rent is much less privacy.

Did I mention that you should actually SPEAK to your roommates?

We don't share rent. We pay for our rooms. I am not responsible for them, or vice versa.

Privacy and respect are different things.

Move your stuff into your room, keep your door locked, and if they have a problem with it tell them to go fvck themselves.

If they don't like it... well... they should have thought about that beforehand.

I don't care who you are or what your living situation is, but if you don't respect other people's property, you don't deserve to use it and you don't deserve respect in return.

Move your stuff into your room. I had to do that at my last house, I thought I could keep my tv and stereo in the main room for everyone to use, boy was a wrong, no one respected my stuff, so I took it all into my room, DVD player, stereo, 32" tv. Took all that stuff into my room, and left them with a 20" tv that was using. Sure they were bummed, but too bad, you dont respect my stuff, you dont get to use it.
