Either way, the image surely limited their appeal. One hit wonder, in any case. What was that annoying whistle noise they used? I recall it later being used by other groups and more recently in television advertisements in what I assume was a sound-alike. FYI, I don't watch TV and avoid ads like the plague so only have a vague recollection from I guess hearing it in passing somewhere.
