Based on the 94% at RT. Not sure what I saw, but it couldn't have been the same film critics gave such praise. I think the rest of the audience agreed as they were all stretching and yawning when the lights came on.

I only go to the theater for 1 or 2 movies a year these days. I was duped at the last second with this one. Prometheus was a mixed bag, but at least I wasn't falling asleep. I'd go see Argo, but my faith in movies is shot for a while.

I don't really think Argo is worth seeing. I never go to movies but a friend had a free movie pass so that is what we saw. It was alright, but nothing mind blowing. It is a good story though, I will say that much.

Yeah I've pretty much given up on going to the theaters. A few times a year, that's it. Home theater plus Netflix & Vudu makes it hard to justify $13.25 per ticket (or $16 for 3D). Also, I don't know what kind of magic juju beans they're using in Vudu's HDX 1080p streaming, but holy cow does that stuff look good! Even better than Netflix in HD!

Argo looked pretty interesting...the last few Bonds (since probably Goldeneye for me) have been pretty boring. I was so bored with the remake of the Royale one that I stopped watching it :p

Perhaps Netflix's HD is actually 720p.

Don't understand the fascination with Bond films. Stupidly unrealistic with the same old shit every time - he kills some dudes and gets laid *yawn*

Might be it. I watched Hanna on Vudu in HDX and it looked better than Bluray. I don't know what kind of devilry they're using but it's awesome stuff

What is there not to get? Hot Bond Bitches! Good action, all of which has been fairly realistic since Daniel Craig as Bond.

Being a spy is something every male kid thinks about and carries over to adulthood. If you don't get that, wanting to be a part of danger and fuck hot bitches on the side while sipping martinis, then you're fucking retarded.

#2 - I like James Bond movies, but this one felt like it just took the polish off of the old ones and used that for the whole movie. Back in the day you had Sean Connery and all the other cool ones who were cool but also Bond-cool (I'm not sure if that makes sense, but it was cool for the purpose of being a spy and being cool and all that, not just for the sake of doing another movie). This one felt overdone to the point where it was all fluff. I mean, James Bond movies are pretty lightweight stuff to begin with, but it felt like another Bond movie for the sake of another Bond movie, and that everything was so cool that it didn't even matter. The part where I got really bored was the Madagascar chase scene in the construction zone:

I dunno...just no emotional involvement. I didn't care how cool it was because I didn't care about his character in this one, I guess. I liked the Bourne movies way better than this particular Bond movie. Maybe I'll try to finish it sometime.

Chase scene was supposed to show how inexperienced he was since he just got promoted to 007. You really should finish the movie though, the entire second half of the film was emotional involvement.

Does a film need to be mind blowing to be worth seeing?

I think the Craig movies are leaps and bounds better than the 'old' Bonds. Though my dad feels the opposite (he's actually fond of both), the same thing he loves about the old ones (the cheesiness, the stupid one-liners) is the same thing about them that annoy me. Casino Royale was the first Bond film to ever have a shred of depth to it far as I'm concerned; I also really like having actual continuity and having stories arcing across multiple films though I do not know if that continues in Skyfall at all.

Plus CR and QoS had "Mathis" who is an awesome character.

I look forward to seeing Skyfall, but I would urge you to check out Argo. I thought it was a fabulous movie in all meaningful respects. The underlying story is fascinating and it is conceived and presented in a thoroughly compelling and satisfying way. I was 9 during the hostage crisis, and I imagine it may help to have been alive when this was all going on, but for me it was one of the most satisfying moviegoing experiences I have had in years.

Seriously? You weren't emotionally involved because it was the first scene of the movie and nothing was established yet. I'll bet you turned off Star Wars during the scrolling words and said "man, I don't get what everybody likes because this sucks... no depth at all"

So basically, the thing that defined ALL the other Bond films are what you don't like about it? That *is* bond. Don't like it? Maybe you don't like Bond films. Cheesy entertainment.

If you want to watch the Bourne series, go do that, but I want my cheesy entertainment back.

And GoldenEye had emotional involvement.

Commercial for Cloud Atlas said best movie of the century.

Never had heard that before a movie came out, only heard that in 2000 when reviewing the 1900s of cinema.

I have to say, I agree with the OP

Saw this movie over the holiday weekend and it blows. It's weird because its 2 hours and 20 minutes but it doesn't seem like anything happens in the entire movie.

Maybe spoilers:

Way over the top hacking bad guy whose back story was only touched on briefly and poorly done, and also terrible acting. And Bond miraculously coming back from the dead without being explained at all also make it a tribute to the old, completely unbelievable bond movies. He was shot twice, falls several hundred feet into water and suddenly shows up banging some chick at some beach somewhere
