Was going to make plans for an exotic vacation

There's a Cavern in Croatia that has the "worlds longest subterranean vertical drop". It's essentially a hole in the ground that's about 100 ft across, zigzags for a good 200ft. or so, then drops straight down for over 1600ft.!

I thought "Cool! I bet they have rope climbs down in there!" So I'm reading up on it and come across this article about it on MSNBC:

I changed my plans after the "At the foot of the Velebit cave are small ponds and streams, including one of the largest known colonies of subterranean leeches, Sutlovic Baksic said." part of the article

Ick! Can you imagine dropping into one of those ponds????

This page doesn't specifically say what they feed on (unless one of those sciencey words indicates it), that is just an educated guess.
