I've seen a few of these around and they look like my kind of car. Good fuel economy mixed with a bigger vehicle. Currently driving a 1996 Toyota Avalon, so a big car with soft suspension is what I like.

Which year/model do you have?
How many miles have you driven?
Any major problems?
What do you think of the car overall?

Anything else you can impart?

Thanks.

EDIT: Just returned from a test drive of a 2004 Crown Victoria LX. Black leather interior, 30,500 miles, asking $16k. Slightly over retail KBB. Lots of happy owner reviews on the web.

Quite a car to drive.

I fit in the 2008 Taurus, but not comfortably so. Not a lot of headroom with the sunroof option.

I'm too young for a Town Car and the Taurus is too small.

Used Crown Vic? The 500 was not getting very good reviews on the whole

No. The new, new Taurus is a rebadged and updated Five Hundred. The Five Hundred name is now dead.
The Taurus differs from the FH by the way of a bigger, more powerful engine (standard or optional...not too sure) and updated styling. CVT has been dropped.
The old Taurus is/was being produced alongside the new one, and used for fleet sales.

Checking this out now at the Ford site.

I like that front end better than the Five Hundred.

Trunk space in those suck. Why? The dame rear axle takes up the majoiryt of it.

The Five Hundred has the largest interior room and biggest trunk on the market today. I'd avaoid the CVT trans if you buy a used one. The 500 is built on the Volvo S80 platofrm so it's a solid ride.

I too like em, I think they look great and the interior is massive. Much bigger than a Crown Vic.

Another good ride is the Park Ave by Buick or the new Lucerne.

I'm not sure how I feel about buying (even a used model) a car on which the name was changed. o_0

It would appear that the 2008 Taurus is essentially the same car as the Five Hundred, but with a stupid name (Taurus). I liked Ford Five Hundred! Maybe that bodes better for buying a car that is no longer made. Sort of no longer made.

yeah why not buy a five hundred if you like... it IS the new taurus (maybe with some minor enhancement)

Eh. The only negative thing that they say about the 500/Montego is that the 3.0L in there is a bit anemic. It's still quicker than a 4 cylinder and offers very good mileage for the size of car that it is.

I like the Montego - twin to the 500 - a tad bit more. It comes standard with HID's and has a sharper looking two tone leather interior.

They are very safe, comfortable cars that cruise well and offer enormous passenger and luggage space.

And best of all, low mileage ones can be had for like $14,000-$16,000.

Their were some updates when they renamed them the Taurus/Sable. Most importantly was the new 3.5L V6. Others included updated grill, better sound deadening, and a little tweaking on the suspension. If you aren't power hungry you aren't gaining a lot more going with the new ones.

They made them for fleets only through 2007. I worked on an 07 Taurus last year.

if it's 500 you want, why not get one. if it looks like it will meet your needs and make you happy go for it

overall from what I have read the 500 isn't all that bad of a car, sure it's not the fastest in it's class but so what. test drive one and see if it has enough power for ya

Don't get the 500. Wait a year or so and get a used copy of the new Fort Taurus. Basically all the good pieces from the old 500, with some better suspension tuning, significantly better engine, and some new body work. It is a MUCH better car than the old 500.

The new taurus is the same vehicle (with improvements) of the old 500.

I wouldn't buy the 500 just because of the much needed improvements made to it in the new Taurus.
