Was ATI. Tried Nvidia 6600GT. Going back to ATI unless someone can help......

First, on every machine, I deinstalled drivers first, clocked to clock and ran driver cleaner......

Albatron 6600GT (has a big HSF unit, so I tried it).

First, won;t let my Intel SRCU21 SCSI controller work. Controller says "error loading bios, see customer support" Put the 9800pro back in, and fine..

Next I put it in my new 90nm 3200+ Winchester rig with an Abit AV8, won't run 3dmark03 more than 30 seconds without a hard lock......

Latest bios, latest drivers, the Abit 939 pin rig has been running stable for a week at 2200, but it can;t finish 3dmark03 now at stock !!! WTF. I am going back to ATI.....

Don't give up on nVIDIA that easily. RMA it and get a new one and try and if it still does not work then return it for cash back.

ATI isn't any better, after their BS launch, they won't be getting any of my business for a long time.

Albatron? Come on man, go with a trusted name like Gigabyte, eVGA, MSI, Asus, or BFG. You get what you pay for.

BlackEvo

OK, not three PC's 3 chipsets, same thing.... They run fine until I run 3dmark. rma time, and then back to ATI.....

First mistake: You bought Albatron. Much like PNY, stay away from their cards.

Secondly, sounds like you got a dud. Write the RMA, be patient, and all will probably be well.

OK, I RMA'ed it and got the N82E16814130220 EVGA card. I saw several references to it here. The other choice was Aopen. What do you all think ?

EVGA makes good cards. If this one doesn't work then you was just not meant for Nvidia. Nvidia cards can tell if you have ran an ATI card in your computer before you've installed their card, they self destruct after 10 minutes if you have. You didn't know that? LOL. No really just wait to get your card back and see what happens. More than likely it was your card that was jacked up. You'll be please with the EVGA 6600GT. My neighbor bought one, although not as fast as the one i have it still ran game nicely.

Dumb ?, but did you remember to plug in the additional Molex power connector to the card ? Sounds like what happend to me. The 6600GT was my first "additional power adapter" card. When I got it, installed, and loaded the drivers fine. I loaded 3dmark, adjusted all my settings, checked system info all worked fine. Once it started rendering the computer would lock. I thought I had a defective card, but I started looking over my install and saw the connector. DoH!

why would you get a 6600gt when you have a x800pro already? also if that is a vivo x800pro you can flash to xt pe!

Yes He tried that...I recommended him to bump up the vagp as well....the fact is he tried all sorts of drivers and beta drivers and all those systems which worked fine when I saw them with their ati cards....

Thing that needs to be done however, and frankly I dont change vid cards alot, but I do reformat when changing vid card platform....

1)total clean of drivers out of system...Old nvidia drivers are bad enough but older ati floating in there are worse...

Well, I have about 10 computers in the house (for my sons lan parties when not crunching F@H), and I was upgrading one of the primary gaming boxes from a 9700pro and wanted to try Nvidia after many years with ATI, since the new series looks promising. I was going to get a 6800GT instead of the X800pro back when I got that, but couldn;t find any.

Edit: And I don;t know if its a vivo, but I don;t think I would flash it anyway, runs great, and that is my server/primary game box. I want it stable, and its fast enough (well sort of, you can never have too much speed)
