Warranty for Laptop

Hey,

Do you guys think that it's worth $85 for the 2-yr express repair warranty on a Compaq X1000 laptop? I know it's kind of a personal opinion type thing, but I've never owned a laptop before, and I don't know how likely it is that it will break. And by the way, I'll be in college, if that makes a difference.

The likelyhood that something will break is high, being a Compaq laptop. Laptops are VERY expensive to work on, and the normal price of one repair often eclipses the price you're going to pay for the warranty. YOu should never buy a laptop without a warranty.

Honestly...$85 for another 2 years of protection/coverage is a DEAL. Take it...especially for a Compaq. i used to be a tech for Compaq and those are not the best handcrafted devices (especially since HP merger). Good luck with it. 🙂

A longer warranty is a good idea for a laptop since you can't make repairs with cheap newegg parts like with a desktop.

See if you can get a long-but-cheap warranty vs. long-and-deluxe: for example a 3-year parts&labor mail-in might be cheaper than a 2-year p&l with semi-useless "in-home service."

Always buy the extended warranty with a laptop.

Repair charges on them are an unbelieveable ripoff.
Agreed. My Toshiba is currently away at service right now.

I would. But read the warranty first and make sure it covers everything you want it to cover. It would not be cool if it breaks a year from now and they don't cover it because of a technicality.
