Warranty ends and right on cue.... failure

well i dont know what to say.... my cars broke, my kitchen cupboard fell off the other day, my macbook pro is on the verge of the fritz and today my camera packs in. almost as if on cue the warranty ended and the failure began

check out that picture.


im guessing the sensor is borked.... its not the lenses, or the settings (i reset) something is fundamentally busted and im gonna have to pay to fix it which sucks.

what can i do

Just how far out of warranty is the camera? Sometimes companies will make allowances if you're nice to the person on your phone and repair something for free that is JUST out of warranty.

yeah 400D/XTi gonna try a firmware update to see what happens

After the firmware update and a complete reset (take out the battery and the backup watch battery), if the problem persists, contact Canon immediately and plead your situation. Don't wait, because the longer you do the less likely someone will have mercy on you. In the US, the minimum charge for any kind of repair, no matter how small, is $200, so it's worth your time to try to get this thing repaired under warranty.

Bummer my first SLR was a XTi sometimes i miss it

done everything i can possibly do, fimrware didnt fix it and taking out both batts and leaving it for a while didnt either.

got a mate who reckons its definately the sensor because he had a similar case where out of the blue all his pics went a shit brown colour. on the blower to canon today.

spoke to a repair center, they siad i had 4 weeks of out of warranty "warranty" so i can get it fixed for no charge except shipping. gonna ship it out tomorrow
