Warrant for my Arrest

On Sept 30 I was driving through Pennsylvania on my way to Niagara Falls Canada. I was in a 65 MPH zone traveling at 80 MPH. I got pulled over and was issued a non-moving citation for "Obedience to traffic-control devices". The citation indicated I needed to respond within 10 days. I mailed in my payment 12 days later(this past wed). Today, I received a notice in the mail that as of the 12th, my license was suspended and a warrant has been issued for my arrest. HOLY SHIT!

So my question... is this for real? Does this mean I can be arrested anywhere by anyone for anything? Is this even legal?

I have to fly to Colorado on monday for business... am I going to get arrested in the airport?

I can't believe this situation... I am SO pissed off! JESUS

If you get pulled over you'll go to jail for driving on a suspended license.

What you need to do is call them and start getting it taken care of. Probably a fine for paying late, a fee to reinstate your license and maybe some court costs.

I like the part where you are pissed off because you failed to comply with the law.

You're a fugitive, and you're on the lam.

I certainly wouldn't go to the cops; I hear that they don't take likely to your type in prison.

Look... I realize i was 2 days late... But isn't an Arrest warrant a little extreme?! I'll happily pay a late fee... But Jail?! seriously!? 10 days isnt even enough time to consult a lawyer about what to plea.

Do they check for local, non federal, warrants when you go through security at an airport for a domestic flight? I am not sure, but I would be surprised if they had this capability. TSA would need to be connected to a ton of databases, unless of course all local warrants are rolled up into one I guess.

Yeah because they aren't being douchebags by giving you only 10 days. Here you get 60 days to pay. 10 days should be illegal. They are just raping people with overdue/court fees. If this was a business they would get sued.

Might as well go on a murder spree. Knock over a few banks while you're at it. Have fun out there while you still can.

Bench warrant for not appearing before a judge (because you didn't mail it in promptly enough). lol

It would have been funny if you're still in canukistan and just now trying to get across the border with a warrant.

This is funny as hell. In California, they send you a notice of the bail amount, or the date to appear. YES, you're supposed to contact the court within X number of days, but every time I've done that, I was told my citation wasn't in the system and to wait for the notice. That usually takes at least 20 days if not longer.

Yep it works slower out here. As long as you show you tried to do the right thing and who you talked to you are ok if the department is the one dragging their feet. My brother in law has been calling for a year... apparently someone misfiled his citation. So in a few days it expires and he gets off free. He has been calling every month to check on the status to be safe and recording the name of the person he spoke to, date and time.

OP most likely it is real. They say 10 days for a reason, maybe it crossed in the mail with your payment but it's best to call and get it straitened out.

THEY HAVE TO HAVE CLEAR LINES, if they made an exception for you they are setting themselves up to be sued by all the other people they didn't make an exception for. Call them get it straitened out. Probably able to get it fixed over the phone.

Good luck.

Yes its for real. If you only had 10 days, you should have mailed that in the next day. You're kind of screwed at this point - even if you showed up in person to take care of it, they'd cuff you and throw you in jail.
