Just giving everybody a warning and a heads up that the taiwanese company the produces the low quality cheap power supplies with the brand name of bestec is a complete danger to motherboards during the time of function and malfunction. my best advice is toss it and get yourself another branded power supply. These power supplies are most likely to be found in budget retail systems such as e-machines.
When the bestec power supplies starts failing, they end up taking out the entire motherboard through the 20 pin connector.

please bump and let everybody know,
never put these up as freebies,
NEVER PUT BESTEC POWER SUPPLIES AS FREEBIES,
they belong in the garbage.
Only 1 casulty of the lighning war and that was a 450 mhz amd chip and board that was directly used to test power supplies.
lol,
cause of death is the bestec power supply,
proof can be found on the web or on the forums..
please bump and let everybody know,

You got one defective unit. Doo doo happens. Could've been a Powmax or it could've been a PCP&C and the same thing could have happened.

For OEM PSU's, Bestec's are actually fairly decent. I'd rather have a Bestec than a whole hell of a lot of other brands out there. Open a Bestec up and then open up another PSU and compare the difference. They're certainly no lesser quality (although lower wattage, sure) than that Coolmax you have in your sig.

Really....

Maybe emachines has them cut corners then because they have been the cause of problems for more than one of those systems. Another Bestec (that was recently replaced with an Ultra XVS 400W modular) was awefully similar looking to those powmax $5 PSUs....

Maybe they just have different grades.

No problems with my 300w Bestec. Powers my 3500+ rig with a overclocked 6600gt and many other add-in's just fine.

I've been tempted to upgrade just for namesake, but if it ain't broke don't fix it right?

Yes Sparky really!
Just because you know who makes a certain power supply does not mean that they make all power supplies using various brand names the same exact way..thus it is a good possibility that the e machine PSU`s differed in some way!

I'm sure they must have different grades then.

I've yet to see a Bestec that looked anything like a Powmax inside. :)

But then again, I've yet to see every power supply out there either. ;)

Yeah... you know... molten steel, leaking caps, burning transistors... those kinds of things. :D
