My friend told me last night that during the scene when it showed the alien holding the boy and it did that close up of the alien's arm, you could see a picture of Mel Gibson's character on the alien's wrist. I didn't notice that when I watched it but I wasn't really looking for it so I'm not sure if that is true or not

what the.. i missed that too.

The girl saying the water was "contaminated" was a sign that it could be used against the aliens.
The boy having asthma was a sign that he was supposed to survive the alien attack.
The water being left around was part of the "there are no coincidences" theme of the movie.
Having all of them make their favorite meals was a sign of their pain. Graham eating off of each plate was his attempt to take all of their pain for himself. He cries because he cannot handle the pain of his family plus the pain of his own.

I saw Signs last night and while it was pretty decent it's not nearly as interesting as you are making it out to be.

Here's a couple questions though:

When put in a postion where you have to protect your family wouldn't just about anyone think to pick up some sort of weapon? They were repeatedly in situations that called for weapons.....ANY weapon whether it was a big knife, pipe, bat, wrench or even a shoe. It was driving me crazy when he went out in the cornfield at night, when the aliens were trying to get in the hous, when they were in the basement, and THEN AGAIN when they went up for the medicine! FSCKING PICK UP SOMETHING....GEEZUS!

On a similar note is it really believable that the aliens don't have any sort of weapons. I know they may have wanted to hand-to-hand fight according to the book but they don't have any sort of gun, knife, lightsaber, nets, blowdarts, tranquilizer guns, or anything? Seems like a big stretch to me.

Much of this movie was just too over the top cheesy for me as well. Having the guy on T.V. say the exact same words as the kid, many of the little "jokes", etc. It really could have been written a little better.

Don't get me wrong, overall I enjoyed my trip to the movies. I just think it could have been better.

Graham did not believe in weapons. He could not, when faced with the certain death of his son, react with violence. It was not in his character to do so.

I know of preachers who don't think twice about owning guns...but this guy did not apparently.

WHY THE F**k don't aliens ever wear clothes? Don't you think any "intelligent" life with half a brain to construct invisible flying saucers would probe the planet and figure out that water (which covers over 70% of the surface) might prove a serious health threat? Sure, continue with the mission to 'harvest' humans (also 70% water) BUT AT LEAST WEAR SOME FRICKIN' CLOTHES.

EDIT 1:
One question (Not very Deep): Why couldn't the Aliens break down a door?
Another good question!

EDIT 2: About Mel Gibson's face on the alien's wrist at the end--I just remembered this. I remember seeing it and not understanding what it was. At first I thought it meant that the alien just had super-reflective skin or something. But now I'm thinking that maybe the aliens WERE wearing something (just not clothes as we would think of them.) The blurry 'reflection' in his skin may have been some sort of video screen device where he was 'remembering' his attacker in the pantry. That was probably just there to show that the alien recognized Graham as his attacker.

I don't remember his belief in weapons being mentioned in the story, even so how about the uncle then?

hmm interesting point. i dont see how it connects though. i mean, food and pain? also its not sound in its context.

Two things I never figured out:

1) When the father is talking to Night's character, the camera looks at the back of Night's SUV and there's a blanket covering something and blood is soaking through the blanket. What was that?

2) What's up with the cookie cutter shapes in the front door when they finally come out of the basement?

Sometimes people who make movies make bad decisions. That was just dumb.

saw the movie, liked it, but guess never 'really' understood it.

i thought it was about aliens. later, i read an article that said it was about a man trying to cope with his beliefs and faith in God. Then i reviewed it again in myhead and liked the movie better. guess i'm not that deep.

but i think quirky has a point, if you go in to see the movie again, which i may do, then i think that i will look out for more things now that i understand what the point of the story was.

ten times better than unbreakable, 3/4ths as good as the Sixth Sense.

one of the scariest parts (besides seeing aliens on rooftops/walking across streets) was the alien book the son picked up. While they were flipping through it, they saw a picture of a farm on fire w/ a UFO shooting it...and 3 dead ppl on the grass...freaky, hehe. Mostly b/c the music made it freaky, but still...

I concur.

I almost concur. I'd say 1/2 of 6th Sense.

And to answer:

I think that Night's character fought the Alien and was injured in the fight.

During the news report at the end, it was reported that people in the middle east had a found a way to drive back the aliens. I thought this was interesting because Shaymalans character looked like someone from that region of the world and he was the only character in the film to know about the water. coincidence?

Anyone else catch the boom mic slipping into top of the screen when They are boarding up the upstairs doors and Mel starts to tell his daughter about when she was born?
