Warning: Screen door effect on 19" LCD monitors.

I have a 17" LCD monitor with pixel pitch: .264, this shows very little screen door effect, not enough to bother me.

My brother just got a 15" LCD monitor with pixel pitch: .297, this shows the screen door effect and is very noticeable compared to my 17".

Then I thought to look up the pixel pitches of both 15" and 19", which are .297 and .294 respectively. My warning is to go and check one out before you buy. You were already supposed to be doing this anyway, but because of a certain brand being better than another, you might just skip that step. That and the fact that no retailer has every LCD on display. But I urge you to go and check out a 19" LCD screen before buying. Check for this effect, because it is quite bothersome.

The pixel pitch doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the screen door effect. The pixel pitch simply refers the size of the pixels. The screen door effect is a result of the gap between pixels being large enough to be noticeable at regular viewing distance. I saw a Sampo LCD TV recently (around 26" I think, not sure on the size) where the screen door effect was noticeable from like 12 feet away. The LCD TVs we have at work though, you have to be close enough to see individual pixels before you start noticing the gaps in between them.

While a 19" has roughly the same pixel pitch as a 15", it's meant to be viewed from farther away, and is usually of a higher quality, thus resulting in thinner lines. Unfortunately, manufacturers are (understandably) unwilling to give out specs on this, so it really is something that you should check out for yourself before buying.

I've only ever noticed the screen door effect in the upper left hand corner of my LCD, and only very occassionally. I think it has more to do with the driving electronics than the pixels pitch. For whatever reason I only see it on my display when using the DVI connector, and not the VGA connection.

I saw it on my old 2001FP. I don't se it all on the 2405FPW.
