Here's the thing, cashews are nuts (in the culinary sense anyway).
"May contain traces of peanuts" is a useful warning. "May have come into contact with nuts" is vague, and, in this case, a truism unless each cashew was individually wrapped. It also really doesn't help you since you don't know what kinds of nuts they are talking about.
