Judging by how stupid people can be these days, I'd say that company has justified itself for that disclaimer.

People are stupid and sue. Its worth the company the 1cent it cost them to print out the warning label rather than get sued sadly :(

Yes you can thank some lawyers for that non-sense.

Not all are bad but most think with a certain twisted thought pattern.

That's the most disturbing, because the only alternative left is Internal Use.

That one I think is necessary. People really are that dumb.

Some people are highly sensitive when it comes to food allergies. That information could be very important to someone allergic to peanuts for example.

I am highly allergic to wheat, and cross contamination can be a problem. The little warning that you see that says "Produced in a facility that also produces wheat products" is very helpful.

Here's the thing, cashews are nuts (in the culinary sense anyway).

"May contain traces of peanuts" is a useful warning. "May have come into contact with nuts" is vague, and, in this case, a truism unless each cashew was individually wrapped. It also really doesn't help you since you don't know what kinds of nuts they are talking about.

That's what I'm saying though. It doesn't have to contain traces of peanuts to be dangerous to some people with allergies. Contact alone is enough to cause someone to have an allergic reaction.

The wording is bad, I agree. They should at least put "May have come into contact with *other* nuts", but at least it's enough of a warning that someone so sensitive would avoid it. And I know that doesn't sound any less vague, but trust me, this simple warning is a godsend for people with allergies.
