Shop Digital Direct

I know a lot of people on here buy cameras and came across this site whenever I was looking for a new tv...they had a cheap price ($1100) for an ($1800) tv. I almost bought it, but decided to call in order to make sure it was in stock and the guy was very un-intelligible and just said it wasn't in stock. I asked when it would be in stock and he said, 'I dunno', and decided to sell me a different brand/different size tv for a much higher price. I just hung up because he just sounded way too un-professional. I decided to do some research on the company since the tv still shows 'IN STOCK' on their site after 3 days of being out of stock...

Read some of these reviews and you'll probably not want to go with, just in case you run by their site this holiday season.

Thanks for the warning, but if we post here about every shady site on the web there won't be room for the deals from reputable sites. :( Hopefully this will remind folks to check and check again before purchasing from unknown sites.

Eh, there's a massive number of places like this all of the internet. It's generally ill-advisable to buy from a place you've never heard of, unless they have excellent reseller ratings feedback.

Would actually be pretty cool if they set up a Forum for information like this on anandtech where you can discuss resellers. I know you can bring this up in Off Topic but I wouldn't be upset to see a new forum for this.

Would be kind of pointless. Just bookmark ResellerRatings, I'd never buy from a small online store without checking it first.

This is not a hot deal of course... That being said there are lots of scam sites for electronics. Most threads here with bad links or sites will get called out real quick. Look at trusted sites like resellerratings.com, BBB, google reviews, and ask some of the people around here. A shady site or deal is usually called out by someone here very quickly. Even if I consider myself a fairly educated buyer, I usually wait to see the response of some people before diving in to deals that may be too good to be true. This is the nature of deal hunting. You need to see the line on the other end of that shiny lure.

We should have a sticky explaining how to use Reseller Ratings and BBB, along with a known list of sites to avoid.

That's a great idea. Scams are counter to what we do here. We want great deals, but we don't want to be taken by crooks. Resellerratings is the Bible. Unfortunately, when they aren't listed there it can be guesswork. A rule I go by is that if I don't know the vendor and they aren't listed on Reselleratings I call. If I hear a New York City accent I won't order. I have lived in New York all my life.
