Straight out of the Anadtech Pressbox

Anandtech Forums Moderating Personnel in two locations on the For Sale/Trade and Hot Deals locales have been put on the very highest state of alert after being warned of possible Massive PS2 Thread Crappings.

The crappings ?were specific enough, and again given particularly the backdrop of recent events in that area, to say to those local moderators that this is the prudent course of action to take,? Anand said.

Anad also stated that the moderators weren?t sure how credible the threats of crapping were but confirmed they included multiple threats from multiple sources. Threat condition delta is the highest level of alert available to Anandtech forces, controlling the movement of threads, the movement of current members, and the checking and parking of visitors.

In general, there has been an increase in threats against Anandtech members over the past couple of days followig the launch of the PS2 gaming system, Anad said.

Anad also added that all such crappings from members would warrant a banning and possible fining of that member as much allowed by law. Anad concluded with a simple request: "Don't crap, PERIOD!"

Yeah and did you see that gaping hole in the side of one of Anand's server farms? The metal fragments point inward so we know it was the result of a direct attack and not some bloody hard drive failing again. I'll bet two ex-AGN terrorists skeetered in on a skateboard while Anand's servers were undergoing routine maintenance. I heard Zuni was in there but he was so intent on updating the FuseTalk forums he failed to see the skateboard scoot up alongside the servers until it was too late! :p

Just wanted to point out that Defcon 1 is actually the highest state of alert, the numbers move backwards from 4 to 1, I think. :D We're actually having quite a cheery day, by your announcement. ;)

And how come I don't have a parking space?

[edit]
Or does it?

Darn it, now you got me confused.

Different DEFense CONditions are:
DEFCON 5 Normal peacetime readiness
DEFCON 4 Normal, increased intelligence and strengthened security measures
DEFCON 3 Increase in force readiness above normal readiness
DEFCON 2 Further Increase in force readiness, but less than maximum readiness
DEFCON 1 Maximum force readiness.

Other interesting tidbits:

EMERGCONs are national level reactions in response to ICBM (missiles in the air) attack. By definition, other forces go to DEFCON 1 during an EMERGCON.
DEFENSE EMERGENCY: Major attack upon U.S. forces overseas, or allied forces in any area, and is confirmed either by the commander of a unified or specified command or higher authority or an overt attack of any type is made upon the United States and is confirmed by the commander of a unified or specified command or higher authority.
AIR DEFENSE EMERGENCY: Air defense emergency is an emergency condition, declared by the Commander in Chief, North American Aerospace Defense Command. It indicates that attack upon the continental United States, Canada, or US installations in Greenland by hostile aircraft or missiles is considered probable, is imminent, or is taking place.

abracadabra1,

Defcon 5 is normal peacetime. You might also want to do some editing and put a few Ns in there. Calling our creator a testicle(anad) is not nice.

Don't you know?

There was a game a looong time ago that was released called "DefCon 5".

It was supposed to simulate WW III but the game designers made the same mistake and messed-up w/the title.

Sheesh some of you really don't know your Defcons?? You either haven't seen the movie Wargames or you were born recently (read that as after the Cold War). Don't know whether or not to envy or pity you. ;)

Man, I have never seen so many locked threads in the Hot Deals forum.

Re: Cold War preparedness...

I remember...

"...Bert the Turtle knows what to do! Do YOU kids? Everyone knows that the
Atom Bomb can explode any time and anywhere...perhaps even in YOUR town......"

"So, when you see the flash..."

<What were the things to do?>

"Duck and cover!"

Heck that sounds like what we had to do during an earthquake.
