I think AnandTech might finally have it completely covered:

Well, you have to admit that this is a potentially very hot deal.

"Hot" certainly being the operative word here. :)

"HOT" as it literally is. I have mine ordered yesterday and the site says it'd take up to 75 days to get my replecament:( Let's hope the current battery won't explode or catch fire while travel in air.

No. It's not a deal at ALL.

Product recall != deal.

Gateway and HP/Compaq should also be issuing recalls in the near-future as they also source their batteries from Sony (per news reports).

Strange.. Is my laptop affected? I went to the site, they said mine can be affected (b/c I have a E1505 and I bought mine in June). Then I checked the battery #, I don't have the same one listed.. my batter starts off as UD... (and so on) HOPE MINE ISN'T AFFECTED!

Its because not all the batteries for that model are the ones being recalled. As long as you properly checked your battery and properly confirmed it wasn't one of the ones being recalled, you should be ok.

If you are concerned, click on the link that takes you to the next step where you enter the full battery numbers next to the barcode. It will then tell you specifically if your battery is subject to recall or not.
