Could not get my brand new eVGA 7800GT to do anythign in 3D - instant blue screens, corruption and eventually lock-up. Called eVGA support and they said that there was a defective BIOS on currently shipping cards and I needed to update the BIOS. Has worked fine ever since.
 
I just bought one that I got last Friday (515 model), and I have no issues with it. So it must be hit or miss on which models have this problem.
