Hope MSI comes out with a good deal/tradeup for people that own the K8N SLI.

Inquirer has the story

I almost got this board, but went with the DFI instead. The K8N is a sweet board, but this makes it far less sweet to anyone looking to upgrade in the future.

That's only for the second card, I don't think many people are going to be using SLI 7800GTXs for now. So MSI has some time to correct this.

Most of inquirer's articles do for some reason.

My guess is that they will make new boards that are compatible, and possibly change the refernece design of their 7800gtx to fit on the current board.

"One of the capacitors is simply on the way. If you break the capacitor you will break the board as it simply won?t run without that small but crucial part. You simply cannot take the capacitor off as the board won't work without it."

I think we get the point lol!

i like the way they said MSI MESSED UP

now im no MSI fan, but i fail to see how they messed up given the fact that the mobo would of been designed before G70 was even a rumour

Well either MSI messed up and didn't follow the mechanical specs for SLI, or Nvidia messed up and changed the specs or messed up the 7800GTX. Since Nvidia wrote the specs, my guess would be on MSI.

The guy(s?) at Inquirer are definitely not the best writers, but post some interesting/short reads in their RSS feeds

And people looking to get freebies or huge discounts on a trade from MSI because of this need a reality check. MSI doesn't owe anyone anything on this deal.

This is fairly old (a week) news. MSI's placement of that cap, is out of spec. The do owe people something.

Whether MSI is responsible or not, they will probably be forced to do something about it out of good faith. If consumers feel that MSI mobos will leave them hanging when new hardware comes out, they will stop buying them;

I guess MSI will just have to recall and replace mobos...or send out soldering kits to its mobo buyers

cant u just bend the cap over or something? or take it out bend the legs and solder it flat?

i know you shouldnt have to do it though, but if it could be done MSI could then just recall the boards and fit a new smaller cap or modify the exisiting one

Why even bump this old post, with an idiotic reply like that?

It has nothing to do with the BIOS, and has been fixed for a while now.

If the cap is actually in the way for sure, If I had the board, I'd just de-solder and relocate the cap... I'd not rid a good board just because of that small but STUPID (on MSI's part) issue.

Seriously, how can you slam someone without linking to the fix yourself?

@$$.

Looks like MSI is following Epox's lead by producing non-ATX compliant motherboards. I wonder if their solution will also be to break of the offending capacitor(s)?

Guess what? I have a MSI SLI board, and two 7800GTXs, and found they fit as well. This ancient article has been disproved and deserves to R.I.P..

As soon as I saw this article I thought of you, Rollo.

God the Inquierer SUCKS.

Hope you don't bite.

It really has nothing to do with the BIOS?
