12-29th? What does that mean. Is that a date? If so, it's the worst way possible to write a date.

Harry Potter fans take heart. Just because Warner Bros says it won’t ship more DVDs or Blu-rays after December 29, that doesn’t mean Hogwarts will immediately vanish from physical or virtual shelves. Or that it won’t be available for streaming, video-on-demand or downloading. “There will be Potter product come the first of the year,” says Jeff Baker, SVP/GM of Warner Bros’ Theatrical Catalog. “Over time, there’ll be less and less of that inventory,” Baker told EW. “At some point, whether it’s next April or May or June or July, it’ll probably be very difficult to find Harry Potter product, especially if you’re looking for the third movie or the fifth movie, for example.” Pulling classics out of circulation, even a big hit like the Potter movies, isn’t uncommon. Disney has been doing it forever with animated classics that are re-issued a few years hence in newer, “enhanced” or digitally remastered versions with more extras. Warner Bros has done it too with catalog titles such as The Wizard Of Oz, Gone With The Wind, and Blade Runner — only to be reintroduced with a big splash. Even Harry Potter: The Complete 8 Film Collection, which hits stores November 11, won’t include “an Ultimate Edition on the final two films,” which means there inevitably will be “some grand kind of piece” Baker says could come at “the end of 2012 or the beginning of ’13.”

This reminds me of this shit the studio pulled with the order of the phoenix where the distribution arm charged it's studio arm over a billion dollars to release it, making them in debt to THEMSELVES. And why? Just to screw over the actors in the movie that had negotiated for a % of the films profit as their pay for being in the movie. Cook the numbers like this shit though and even hundreds of millions of dollars gross at the box office is still technically a "net loss" and the actors that are contracted for a cut of the films profit get nothing. The same exact thing happened to the actor that played Darth Vader. Did you all know Return of the Jedi after all these years hasn't made a "profit"? -_-

This industry is fucked up beyond belief.

I feel that this move will do little to inspire me to purchase something that I was never previously inspired to purchase.

I don't get it.
All you do is end up with pent up demand which then looks like improved sales.

Fucking vault. Like it's some magical hole in the side of a mountain with a big bank door lock on it and daffy duck comes out and spins the combination and goofy opens up the door to a shining prize of the orange-ray 5660P version of Lion King.

In reality its just a bunch of dusty warehouses around the US with some fat guy eating a sandwich guarding the place.

Actually there is a big fucking vault inside a mountain! I have been there several times when I worked for BMG. Something like a mile down. Every copy of everything is in there. Really. look it up.

I can't find fault with this marketing strategy in this modern age.

Thanks KLin, that's exactly what I was talking about.

ha ha, talk about the pot calling the kettle black! :awe:

I spent 3 years in the department that pays out half of hollywood, so I think I know what the fuck I'm talking about. When was the last time you read a contract between a studio and an actor?

People who are entitled to receive a back end participation also have audit rights to verify that the deal that they have signed is being followed.

If they got a shitty deal, well then they should go out and find a better manager/agent or make better (meaning more profitable) films.

Finally, a person's statement =/= net profit statement for a film.
