Warmest winter so far this century

Only ~5 days this winter has the temp dropped below 20F.

and no days below 10F.

Yea, low heating bill 🙂

Link - Coldest winter overall since 2001 and just above the national average of 33.0 at 33.2 degrees.

Record snow all across the Northeast, West, and MidWest. We even had snow flurries today in Georgia. This has been a great winter for snow. Much needed to help with the drought in places like the west and south east.

So? There were 30 days of temperatures below freezing from 7 NOV - 7 MAR and with an average of 43F for the same time period.

With the higher temps around here (MD), and the lower temps with snow in the Midwest, I wonder if it's related to Atlantic sea temperatures or the ocean currents. Freakin' ugly day here today though, and I feel like we've been inundated with rain for the last several months.

That's interesting for you to say. It hasn't rained that much. Stafford County Virginia is still under mandatory water restriction. The restrictions were reduced in February, but are still in effect. The little rain that we've received is slowly raising the reservoir levels, but not enough to entirely lift the restrictions.

I have lived my entire life in Northern Virginia and this winter isn't even close to the warmest. We have had winters with no measurable snow whatsoever and winters cold enough that the Potomac has completely frozen over during my lifetime. This winter has been mild but there have been both snow and ice storms. We had enough snow in early January that it was around in our backyard for a week or 2.

I wouldn't be surprised if we had a record snowfall here in UP of Michigan. The snowbanks are huge, haven't seen this much snow in a long time, since I was a kid digging holes in them for snowforts. 😉

Meanwhile, we are on target to beat all time snow fall record (207cm) set back in 1938-39 winter. Should happen by tomorrow...

I just checked, and we've had over 1.25" of rain in the past two days. Total rainfall for the month so far is 1.85". We've had 5.73" of rain for the year so far, but I guess we're actually below the average for this time of year (6.01" for Jan/Feb alone -- looks like Jan was low while Feb was about right).

I guess the rain has just been spaced out so it comes just at the same time the ground is almost dry, making it muddy again. I notice it so much because I have to walk the dog all the time!
