Warmer, ends today: Plextor 48x24x48 has dropped to $38.76 (plus tax) after shipping and MIR at Dell

Searched, couldn't find a dupe. Kudos goes to techb@rgains. Beats the heck out of NewEgg, but they might readjust their price soon...

Plextor has a new $30 rebate (begins today). Dell has 20% of all peripherals in their Small Biz, free shipping on orders $50+. You pay tax on $72, so essentially most people will get one for $48-$50 after rebate.

Choose between black or beige. Item A0054273.

Edit 5/7
They knocked $4 off the price. After tax, you'll now pay about $45 after rebate. Also, this is the last day for the automatic 20% off, so make your decision quickly...

Nice Price

Dell Part number for the black one is
A0054268

The discount appears when you add the item to your cart

Well right you are...the Newegg add at the top of my screen says Liteon 52x24x42 CDRW for $46....lol.

Does it say if these are reatail or not?
Not specifically, but OEM units seldom come with all the software that's listed on the Tech Spec tab...so I assume they're Retail.

Yes, you can spend about the same for a Liteon that's a bit faster...I was speaking of Newegg's current price on the same Plexy.

Dude.. of late I've been getting just BenQ and some other cheap stuff... do let me know of good LiteOn (cheap) deal

Between the Plextor and Lite-On, and idea which is better at DAE?
According to MaxPC, the Asus 52x24x52 had a better DAE than the Plexy. Personally, I have a 40TSi, so DAE differences between two IDE drives don't matter much to me...but you can be relatively assured that the Plexy IDE is near the top of the heap. You might see a difference of a few seconds, plus or minus.

What a coincidence...I thought my old HP 9200i SCSI drive was simply acting up last week (I've had minor config problems with it before). Finally had time to fiddle around with it today, and no matter what I tried, the BIOS didn't see it. Changed termination, changed ID, checked the cable snugness, verified it was powered up...it just can no longer be seen. My 40TSi can be seen just fine, so it isn't the cable, either.

Originally, I had no intention of buying this, cuz I figured I'd just save the money for a few months and wait for DVD-R drives to drop a little more in price...I just wanted to let you guys know about the deal (which is much better than the deal from two weeks ago). But a dead drive kinda changes my situation. Total cost for me (AR) is $48.30. Hopefully, this thing will never break down...

Excellent Deal. I worry that Dell may be selling OEM/white box drives. The rebate forms available at Plextor Rebate Form Link and at BUY.Com (same form) both refer to specific UPC barcodes.

So, Dell's drives will only be eligible for the rebate if they are labeled with one of the appropriate UPC barcodes. I'm going with BUY.Com. White PX-W4824TA/SW. BUY.Com specificly identifies these drives as eligible for Plextor's rebate, is shipping them free, and prices them at $79.99 before the rebate.

So, I'm looking at $49.99 after rebate; or, maybe about $55; if BUY.Com is collecting Florida sales tax. I expect to be happy even if I do have to pay a little more. BTW, Black faceplate drives are priced at $93.01 before rebate. Maybe a little spray paint is appropriate if you "NEED" a black drive. 🙂

Dell droped the list price to $85.95 (from $89.95) so after the 20% coupon (ends tomorrow) and tax and rebate it's about $44. Now I just need to decide if I want to get this or the Best Buy 52x lite-on for $20 after MIR...

Just to let you know it's the retail version that Dell sends. I received mine yesterday 🙂
