West Virginia will be having a sales tax holiday this coming weekend. It starts at 12:01am Friday, August 2nd and runs through midnight Sunday, August 4th. It is for school supplies, including clothes, shoes, paper, computers and accessories(not digicams, MP3 players, games, etc.), and more. Any single item under $100 is not assessed tax, and there's no limit on the number of items.

Details, including lists of exempt items

I don't know if someone without school-age kids can avoid paying tax - probably not, since the state legislature never met a tax they didn't like. ;) It's worth a try, however. Hope you can benefit from it.

have fun,

I would be incredibly ticked off if I were a tax payer and was not allowed to take part in this exemption. All tax payers regardless of if you have kids or not pay for the school taxes. Anyhow glad to see I'm not the only wver on here

If you can get that 2.2GHz Medion laptop at Aldi (see HD forum), that'd be $90 worth of tax saving.

Tax holidays are stupid. If something isn't taxed during certain special periods, then it shouldn't be taxed at all.

Texas has the same thing this weekend, or at least Houston does.
It applies to the entire state, however only incudes Clothing, shoes and stuff like that. No school supplies (oddly enough), but new legistlation will make it so that next year school supplies are included in that.

As far as buying a computer, I guess that can be used as a school supply but I doubt that would happen. Too many businesses and other people would take advantage of that and the local govermnents wouldn't want to miss out on those taxes.

North Carolina and South Carolina are having the same thing this weekend as well. No state wants to lose shoppers to their neighbor.
