Hmmm....this better then the 2 port speedstream that compusa was selling for the same price?

Having heard to many good things about D-link but it is 4 ports instead of 2, someone LMK.

I bought a new one for $50 the other day, it was easy to install and excellent quality. I'd recommend it, a little cheaper than a Linky and it seems to do the job.

Hmmm...

I think this deal may be even hotter.

The price charged to my credit card was $59.99 + TAX.

There are 2 [two] rebates available on this device. One for $30.00 from D-Link, and one for $20.00 from Bestbuy. Both forms are available on-line at bestbuy.com when you check out.

Both rebates say they want the originial receipt... I am sure, however, that bestbuy will accept a copy of the UPC.

Anybody else see something different??

Just read two water-downed reviews linked from there website which didn't give to much detail. I found another on Cnet which was a bit better also included users comments which I usually find more insightful.

I jsut bought this router, I was shocked to see two rebates worth $50 on top of the price of 59.99
Best buy rebate form actually says *copy* of UPC., so I should be able to use both the rebates.

So a $100 router for $10, that is deal of the season...

Hmm..

My bestbuy rebate form [printed from the website] says it wants:

This rebate form
copy of receipt
original UPC barcode cut from box

Like I mentioned earlier though, I am sure a copy will suffice.

I guess they need to EDIT the title of this thread to $9.99 + tax!

Great deal if it goes through.

I have the rebate form that printed with the receipt, so that's probably why it says different.
But yes, copy of UPC for BB, original UPC to the manufacturer

whats the difference between a router and a switch, I noticed it said it was a switch? Also they charged me a 5.00 order charge? What is that?

A switch is used for networking a bunch of computers, a router is used for connecting a bunch of computers to the internet using only one IP address. A router also usually has a built in firewall to protect the network from hackers.

So will this work if I want to hook up 2 or 3 computers to my cable modem with only 1 ip? And are switches better than routers?

You didn't order right I think, at check out you need to locate stores near you then they are listed and you choose which one your going to pick it up at. Then you need to choose "None" for shipping method and click "recaculate the total".

A router and switch are different things. This is a router with a built in 4 port switch. A router is useless without a switch or a hub if you want to connect more then one computer. You can hook up 4 computers with this one so it's great for your purpose and connect your cable modem.

Tax would be 4 or 5 bucks anyways so shipping it for 6.65 is decent and saves a car trip.

Here are the links.

Router The link to the rebates is under the product description.

CNet review

jonley, can you scan the rebate that asks for a copy of the UPC and post it somewhere? I'd rather use that, if possible, than risk having the other one rejected. Thanks.

Does anyone who's done In-store pick up at BestBuy.com know how long it usually takes to receive the email with the confirmation number that you need to take to the store? Does it come almost imediatly, or hours later?

argh, the only reason i did that stupid WinXP promo deal was for the "free" router, and now i see it's only $10 after rebate (less hassle than the Best Buy rebates deal)... :(

On a plain old switch or hub, the uplink port allows you to hook the switch/hub up to another switch/hub or up to an existing network connection to be a part of that network. With a router, though, there is a WAN port that acts as an uplink port. I think they're just saying you can't use this as a standalone switch without the routing capabilities. However, you can always get a "crossover" cable if your hub/switch/router/whatever doesn't have an uplink port.

My PC is "buggered" - Javascript popups won't work for me - Could someone PLEASE post the rebates on a regular site so I may print them off? I'd really appreciate it... Thank you :)

OK, I just called the phone number at the bottom of the rebate forms and asked what to do since both forms say to send the original UPC symbol. They said to send a copy of the UPC for the Best Buy rebate, and put a note in there explaining that there are 2 rebates available so you have to send a copy. There should be no problem getting both of these rebates, $10 for a 4 port router is a pretty sweet deal in my books :)

rennerb, if you can't hook up another hub to it how can you get more than 4 computers on the internet at the same time with it?
