<< Question: Is it worth the extra $10 or so to get the retail version?? Are the gold plated connectors and old games worth it?? >>

From the pics at Newegg, the non conducting parts of the connectors are gold! Why would anyone put gold on the outside when its more expensive and removes the color coding?

What is the dif between the OEM and retail? From the pics, there is a manual and some cable (CD to sound card) extra in the retail version. Both only show one CD and it looks the same for both.

Hmmm .. Just happened to be in Staples today and saw the Retail
Audigy Gamer for $79 on sale. Go to Best Buys price match it
with staples and then get the $20 rebate! Sound like it could be done
for $59 after rebate.

Not bad ..

Isn't gold better for sound clarity or something? Makes corossion noexistant and improves signal quality? I don't know if all of thats true but it seems to ring a bell...

And who cares about the color coding, that might be something useful for an 8 year old kid, but I'm pretty sure were all adults here, at least in age =]

hope all of you know that creative will not provide full version of liveware and playcenter for their soundblaster series anymore. only update available. it sux when the next version of windows comes out, and driver won't work. i'm pissed already that i can't hear anything from my 2 rare speakers under xp. i don't think i'm going to buy another products from creative anymore because of this.

Looks like I am going to be getting the OEM version from Newegg. Does not seem to be very beneficial to spend the extra cash for gold plated connectors and a couple of games..

grifterspawn,

How long ago did you purchase this card from Staples for $75.00? Was it a sale price and is this before or after any rebate? Their website is showing $99.98...$75.00 retail is a very good price especially for a B&M store!

Thanks!

Creative has the Audigy Gamer with Inspire 5300 Dolby 5.1 Speaker system for $149.99, which seems like a pretty good price (since none of us are getting the $22 Dell ADA speakers!). It's on the same page of specials as the Nomad for $139.

I'll try my first link...
