Warm - Samtron 76V Monitor $99 at Sam's Club YMMV

Thought this looked like an ok deal at Sam's for those who don't like MIRs. Specs can be found here.

Here are some of the specs:

17"(16.0" Viewable)
0.23mm(H) Dot Pitch
1024x768@85Hz
1280x1024@65Hz Maximum Resolution

They had 2 pallets of these at the Charleston, SC Sam's.

Samtron is their system integrator channel line, not supposed to sell in retail channel.

I saw these yesterday at my SAM'S. Watch out for the dot pitch, they are advertising horizontal. The diagonal dot pitch is .27. More and more monitor manufacturers are trying to fool consumers by listing the smaller horizontal dot pitch number instead of diagonal. They know people are getting smarter about computer monitors so they are trying to BS them like they do with the screen size (i.e. tube size, 17", versus viewable area, 15.9").

Trivia fact: if you look under Windows' built-in video drivers, Samtron is listed under Samsung. So it is in fact made be Samsung. However, the 950B mentioned above is a 19" flatscreen, and I think this one is a 17" non-flatscreen.

Technically they are not cheating but they are stretching it. It can be misleading. Other manufacturers are sticking with the diagonal dot pitch so when the average consumer goes to compare they see the .23 and think it's better than a .27 monitor.

Samtron 76/77V is curved tube similar to Samsung950B/P.

Bestbuy has Samtron 76DF (similar to Samsung 753DF).

Bestbuy's price:
Samsung 753DF $200 - 40 rebate
Samtron 76DF $170 - 20 rebate

The main difference if you buy at retail store:
Samsung - 3 years warranty, Samtron - 1 years.

If you buy Samtron from system integrator or reseller, and they get it from distributing channel, it'll have same 3 years warranty.

Bought one at my local Sam's last weekend as a replacement for a 4-year old KDS that died suddenly.

It's for my 8-year old son's system, and it seems to be just fine at 600x800, haven't tried anything higher as he'll never use it. Fairly compact, seems to be an all around decent monitor. Nice and bright, good colors, no obvious defects with all the usual controls.

Doesn't really compare to the 753df that I practically stole from Dell last year- $85 after rebate, no shipping, killer flat screen monitor.

All-around good deal, though, on the Samtron. Warm is definitely a fair assessment, far as I can tell. They also had two other 17" monitors in the $125-130 range, might be better for some.....

Stay away from the KDS XF-7e & XF-7i lines of Xtreme Flat monitors that Sam's sells.
Out of the 10 I bought, 6 were bad. 4 with focusing problem and 2 dead after 2 weeks of use.
I don't know how long the remaining 4 will last.

Odd, I got the 19" version for my in-laws. It works great.

This is available at the St. Charles Sams in Missouri, and is actually listed as Samsung under Click N Pull for $99.
