Warm? Refurbished Z540 $31.95 @ Buy.com Clearance

Bump for other opinions. This looks like a pretty good deal to me. I'd like to get these speakers but I would just like to see what others have experienced with refurbished speakers. Are they just as good as new speakers? Do you experience any problems with refurbished speakers...things like that? Thanks in advance.

I have experience with these speakers. Avoid refurbs on speakers if you want peace-of-mind. Why would you pay this much for a refurb when you can get new for the same price. I bought the Logitech z-540s (a compromise, I wanted the 560s or A/L 641s but my wife wanted quiet) at Staples. Here is the deal (bought on 7/24):

Staples has the 540s for $79.99
PM to buy.com ($57.92): $55.71 (110% BVG) (Buy.com had free shipping)
use $10 coupon: $45.71

Plus tax comes to around $48 for me. They sound GREAT with my SB Live! card with EAX. I will NEVER go back to 2.1 again! For all those wanting to compare the z-540 to the 560 don't, they are very different. The 540s have 2" drivers, the 560s have 3 inchers. The subwoofer on the 540 is actually, get this, a 4" driver! The sound is produced by a radiator (about 8"). The 560 has a BIG driver. The 540 has a total of only 40 watts power 5 eash sat/20 for the sub while the 560 has about 200 watts (the stated 400 watts is marketing hype).

I LOVE these speakers. They are quality speakers and they sound great, especially in games. The 540s have received glowing reviews and are listed (in the reviews) at $79 list. The reveiwers say they are a great deal at $79, how much of a deal are they at less then $50? I bought the 540s as a compromise. They provide great sound and plenty of thump for games. If you want to spend less then $50 buy the 540s. If you want to spend about $120+ buy the 560s.

decent find. however Buy.com has some nonrefurbished ones for approx 50 or so. so what i did was PM at Staples and i got them for 40 dollars! after a coupon of course 🙂

oh yea and they aren't bad speakers however i gave them to my friend and I bought 2 sets of klipsch 2.1s hahahaha these are the BEST speakers ever. but i paid 200 for em

Do you guys have a link to the new Z-540s? I can't seem to find them on the site. I search for z-540 and all I come up with are the refurb ones. 🙁

Sorry guys but it looks like Buy.com sold out and is backordered on the new Z-540s. Here is the link to the page:

Ouch! It looks like the free shipping deal is gone as well ($19.07 now). Best to find a better deal at another place and pricematch to Staples OR wait until Buy.com offers fre shipping again.

Hey all,

I really wanted these speakers, but I couldn't PM to Buy.com because there was no more free shipping. By guess what...Amazon does! Here It's $57.44 with free shipping. PM that to Staples, and use the $15 coupon to bring it down to $42. I'm going to give it a shot tomorrow. Hope someone will find this useful 🙂

Staples did a PM and accepted a $10 off $40 for me just last week. The store manager bent over backwards to help me. He told me they PM major on-line retailers AND accept their own coupons to boot! Good luck ... great speakers!

Same here. I added a $10 off $40 coupon for that Verbatim deal.
