The first link to All Electronics sends you to 24 volt fans. They won't spin at full speed, which is good if you desire silence. At 12 volts these fans will be quieter than stock L1A's.

Yikes, I didn't catch that at all. Any idea what Dbi/CFM you get with the 24V fan running 12V?

what about these?

Hrmm . . . the pic is a 12L and the shipping is decent, but the fact there is no exact part number makes me a bit wary. Sent them an E-Mail hoping to see if there are the 12L's or the 12M's.

Yes. They said they did not know offhand, but were sold out and had no option to restock :(

That looks like quite a deal if shipping is ok. Never heard of the brand though, but standard sleve bearing fans are fairly trivial to design these days. There is a noteciable difference between 21db and 25db though for those who are looking to put these in things like HTPC's, but for most people they are nearly identicle in volume. Good find!

Shipping is $6.99 for unlimited items via UPS ground. Not fantastic but if you buy enough, it might be worth it. What would you recommend for a CPU heatsink fan? There is no point in getting quiet fans for the case if the CPU is still howling.

Hey all. I was looking for an 80mm fan like the L1A that is as thin as possible and found the ZM-OP1. It's supposed to be an add-on for the ZM80C-HP vga heatsink but it looks like it will work as a CPU cooler (on the AX-7, specifically). When you run it at 5V/1400rpms it has specs similar to the panaflow (I can't seem to find that information now but I could swear it's approximately 20cfm at 20dB).

Have any of you had experience with this fan (and specifically to cool an XP1900)?

Thanks!

6.99/4 shipping with 3 pin tail at svc,

or like you said 5/4 at casecooler, untailed, casecooler has 3 and 4 pin tails for 1$,

Frys also sells the tails for these, for those of you with them.

It seems like I cut the notch of the standard two pin plug to use on a 3 pin connecter once.

I bought 5 or 6 from all electronics a couple years ago and love em.

Now I have switched several out for my wife, and am out and would love more at 3$ each, but it just doesn't look like it will happen.

Watch out for those 24 volt fans newegg has those too

Are you trying to say they're $6.99 if you order 4, or what? They're $6.99 for just 1, plus $1.95 shipping to me (or $6.25 shipping for 4). $6.99 is too much IMO.

If you want the cheapest fan possible, consider SVC.com:
80x25mm 32.5CFM / 28.3dB SVC Ball Bearing 3-pin

Not the quietest fan out there, but at $1.49 ea, who cares?
Specifications:
Fan dimensions: 80 x 80 x 25 mm
Connector type: 3-pin w/RPM signal
Bearing type: Ball Bearing
Fan speed: 2500 RPM
Fan airflow: 32.5 CFM
Static Pressure: 3.15 mm-H2O
Noise level: 28.3 dB (A-weighted)
Power Consumption: 2.00 Watts
Current Draw at 12VDC: 0.17 Amperes

I've bought lots of stuff from SVC w/o any problems.
Shipping for 1 fan is $1.95 shipped USPS 1st class mail or ($4.13 UPS ground).

The problem with most sleeve-bearing fans isn't the difficulty in design, it's that they cut so many corners to reduce cost that the end-result is a junk fan. The simplest of things like a larger bearing and shaft, precise spin-balancing, are even too great an expense, apparently. IMHO, there are only two "popular" high-quality sleeve-bearing fan makes, Papst and Panaflo.
