I'm sure anyone interested in Haswell was wondering whether MC would have significant sales and bundle discounts on these parts on launch day, and they do.

  • i7 4770K - $279.99 ($350 at NE, TD)
  • i5 4670K - $199.99 ($250 at NE, TD)

Plus Additional $40 off with Mobo purchase. As with all MC processor deals, these are IN-STORE ONLY.

MicroCenter also has some advertised bundles on their Haswell landing page that are actually *cheaper* than the $40 + CPU bundle. These may be advertised price mistakes, so they should honor them still, but YMMV.

http://www.microcenter.com/site/brands/intel-processor-bundles.aspx

New June flyer is live on their website with updated and generally cheaper motherboard prices:
http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/6a81b268#/6a81b268/33

Email promo with $160 Gigabyte Z87x UD4, bringing board down to potentially $120 after $40 off, YMMV.
https://email.microcentermedia.com/...TY_ID=E17710001&EQUIFAX_CAMPAIGN_ID=E1771

For example, I just picked up the Asrock Z87 Extreme4 with 4770K and they adjusted it down another $30 or so to make it $400+tax out the door.

There are also a bunch of deals that go live tomorrow that drop some boards down in price, I have the ad with me and here's the 3 boards that are advertised as "Special Deals". *These deals are now live in the June flyer linked above.*

For anyone who already has SB and IVB this may not be a worthwhile deal, but for those with X58 and older the deals may be enough to entice you to upgrade. For me, I'm glad I waited for Z87/Haswell over Z77/IVB because the platform improvements from Lynx Point were well worth the ~$70 or so extra I spent on the Haswell platform.

I'm sure these prices will go down eventually, but given MicroCenter's price history, don't expect 4770K to drop below $229.99 and even then, there is the risk they will remove the CPU from the bundle deal for months at a time like they did with 3770K.

Does haswell require a new motherboard; or will a MB for SB work ?

I think I'll wait a couple of months and see which MB prove to be reliable. I remember with SB that there were a few dogs in the mix :(

I can't even get this to price match at Fry's. Man I wish we have Microcenter in Seattle.

Should sticky this thread, so that we don't see similar ones every other month from someone who just "discovered" this deal and rushed to post it without seeing if it was posted before. :p

The 3770 seems to outperform the 4770 and its cheaper especially when you consider with the 4770 you will need a new mobo, ram, etc. If you get a 3770 there are plenty of Mobos to choose from.

Hmmm... is it worth the $50 to upgrade to Haswell over IB? I'm buying new CPU/mobo upgrading from an i7 920 and love my second system that's running an i5 2500k. So go with a second system in the same family (gives troubleshooting flexibility if need be and is cheaper), or spend the extra money for "future proofing" my system?

Haswell system $325 roughly:
ASUS Z-87C Socket LGA 1150 ATX Intel Motherboard $160 - $40 combo
Core i5 4670K $199

IB system $275:
P8Z77-V LX Socket 1155 Z77 ATX Intel Motherboard $125 - $40 combo
Core i5 3570K $170

I don't think I've seen any reviews corroborate IVB being faster than Haswell, maybe if you factor in IVB being able to OC a bit higher, perhaps more consistently over Haswell. Everything I have seen however indicates Haswell is as expected, 5-15% faster than IVB clock-for-clock. Also, you shouldn't need different RAM for Haswell, it's still DDR3 if you are doing just a mainboard and CPU swap.

Also, surprisingly, the 3770K is actually going up in price in a few hours once this new ad goes live. 3770K is $249.99 and 3570K is $189.99 in June 3rd ad, so if you want to go 3770K better act fast!

Easy answer for me was yes. Mainly for the SATA6G ports, 6x native vs. 2x native on Z77 is huge, especially given I already have 2xSATA6G SSDs and plan to add another for my boot drive at the very least. 2x native seems way too restrictive. Also, native USB 3.0 jumps up quite a bit as well from 4 to 6, most boards have 10 with integrated USB 3.0 hubs. There is still some question about the USB 3.0 bug with S3 Sleep, but we'll see how that shakes out. Overclocking concerns with Haswell aside, I've seen pretty much every review show it's 5-15% faster than IVB clock-for-clock. If I were sitting here last year at IVB launch I would've probably gone IVB, but at this point, I don't see the point of not getting Haswell for $50-75 more.

Speaking of which, I decided to take the Asrock Z87 Extreme4 back for the Gigabyte Z87x UD4. It's only $35 more tomorrow and has a better PCIe layout (x8/x8 + x4 instead of x8/x4/x4 on the Asrock)

lol yeah, although I don't mind the new threads because sometimes the OP doesn't update the first post with the updated deals, so it just looks like an old deal with a necro bump unless you go digging for the latest news at the end.

With regards to upgrade; it depends what you are looking for from the upgrade. For example I am currently on SB; and my primary reason for wantting to upgrade is for HD5000 vs HD3000. If you are looking for a big boost in CPU forget it; yes in some cases Haswell is a bit faster but not huge boost. The additional sata ports are helpful but the MB I currently have has 8 sata ports and while some of them are not that great; they do find with the optical drives. Also power consumption is another advantage of haswell (if it matters to you). I personally would not upgrade for CPU; but I think it is worth it for the video boost.

(of course it begs the question why not just buy a dedicated GPU for 1/2 the price).

MicroCenter sent out a mailer today that listed the Gigabyte Z87x UD4 for $160, which is $25 cheaper than their June 3rd flier.

https://email.microcentermedia.com/...TY_ID=E17710001&EQUIFAX_CAMPAIGN_ID=E1771

It's possible to get this for $120 after the $40 off mobo combo, but this is YMMV as the CPU + mobo will not ring up this way. You will need to get them to match their advertised price, they did it for me but again, it's YMMV. Just make sure to print the ad and bring it with you.

Great board, glad I waited opening the Extreme4. It's a MC exclusive for the time being but the main benefit for SLI/CF users is that the board will run x8/x8 (3.0) + x4 (2.0) where the Extreme4 runs x8/x4/x4 (3.0). It also has higher end components overall from what I could see, better cooling, and more 4-pin PWM fan headers.

So... why not? You doing a limited power SFF or something? If so, I approve.

If you got the board for $120, then you got lucky. The way the advert reads, the $160 price is AFTER the $40 discount.

The copy reads: "$159.99 When purchased with an Intel 4th Gen Core i5-4570K or i7-4770K processor after instant & bundle savings. $199.99 if sold separately after instant savings."

So, to obtain the $159.99 price, that includes buying a cpu and getting the appropriate $40 off w/bundle. The instant price drop reduced the price from their "regular" $229.99 to $199.99, the bundle price is the $40 off. Got lucky.

Oh, and it's now down to $185 before bundling price drop, making it $145 now.

The usual motherboard price list it that way, but if you click on the mailer link it does not have any of that usual language next to it. But yes, the June 3rd flier listed it at $185 - $40 regardless so the price of $145 would've been the max I would've paid for that board. Either way it was a listed mistake that will be YMMV to get them to honor it, I've noticed the daily email listings tend to do this. For example, the mailer today listed the same board at $150 after $40 bundle bonus, but obviously the $190-40 is not as good as the mailer listed price of $185-40. I'm sure it will take MC a few weeks to get it all sorted, in the meantime, there are deals to be had!

Add to that deal $20 off any Samsung 840 and $10 off 8GB Ballistix and $20 off 16GB Ballistix when you buy the Haswell CPU.

MSI Z87-GD65 is now only $160, less $40 with CPU/mobo combo bringing it down to $120.

http://www.microcenter.com/product/414818/Z87-GD65_Gaming_Socket_LGA_1150_ATX_Intel_Motherboard

The price on the website has it at $160, if you add a 4770K it brings it down to $120. The advertised price is higher at $190-$40 and there was a mailer today that had it on special for $180-40.

Best bet would be to order online and pick it up in-store, or bring the print out of the web page, although their POS should ring up with the $160 price before $40 combo.
