Nice deal for smart people.... But I was never known for my intelligence. Still waiting for Z-680's to get to that price 🙂

save your money for some better MM speakers (ie, klipsch ultras or creative gigaworks)

Any recommendations for a similar set of speakers at a similar price (hopefully cheaper?)? Thanks. I was a click away from buying those a few hours ago on newegg.com.

heh well my FPS2000 speakers still rock. Not nearly the raw POWER of the newer Logitech's or Klipsch's, but they're very clear and crisp at human (read: tolerable;non-painful) volumes. Besides, I'm still at home. Can't blast the music at sick levels yet till I get a place of my own 😉

power is worthless if it is overwhelming. i'd much rather have precise set over something that'll make me deaf - from sheer loudness and poor reproduction.

Hey MastaVic, you won't find a better set for $50. They are normally $80. I've got a set of these and a set of Altec 251's and the Logitechs are a lot better sounding. FYI, I was using the sound storm on one box and went to a good sound card and it made a huge diff. Much better sound with either TB Santa Cruz or Audigy 2.

Hehe, I got these at Amazon (same price i think) and these are great speakers. I have both a TBSC and Aud2ZX and the Audigy sounds even better now.
If you want cheap 5.1 speakers, get these. They are REALLY loud and Call of Duty is friggin awesome now. 🙂

amazon.com has them for 54.99 shipped as well. they used to have them for 47.99 when i was in the market for them but i ended up getting the z5300's...

Thanks for the replies! I was just wondering if the $54.99 price (with free shipping) at Amazon.com is a sale price or just the normal price for these speakers at Amazon.com. I am still undecided about these speakers and wanted some time to think about it, but if $54.99 isn't the permanent Amazon.com price for these, I might grab it right now.

If anyone knows, please let me know, thanks!

I needed a speaker set fast and on impulse (while buying someth else) bought a pair for $79 at circuit city last week, normal price. But since they replaced a blown out set without much oomph, I can't complain. They sound better than I had before. Haven't cranked them way up though. Minor problems.....

1. Headphone jack is not controlled by volume control (have to use the sound card controls via software, which sucks). Heck, even my BA speakers from years ago could use the volume control to adjust headphone levels.

2. Volume control is harder to turn than I like it. I always think I'm going to tip it over when I have to turn that control. Hope it loosens up a bit.

3. The bright blue LED of the center speaker looks cool, but it's right at eye level for me and is too bright. I will have to dim it down using a permanent marker.

Thank you so much for the thorough reply. My former college roommate actually had this speaker set, but he rarely cranked it up so I didn't hear it too well. I do have the older Logitech set (Z-540) but I need another set of speakers for another computer. I was not aware that the headphone jack isn't controlled by the volume control, and that's going to be pretty annoying. As for the bright blue LED, I know exactly what you mean, as I have stared into it very many times whenever my roommate left the speakers on.

I usually do trust Logitech speakers though, so I might end up buying this (mostly like from Amazon.com for $54.99, shipped free), unless I find another set of speakers for a cheaper price.

Thanks a lot,

Thats about the same price that Newegg has had for awhile.
They just lowered the price and charge more for the shipping.

These (IMO) are good speakers, at a good price.
I have a set that I bought from Newegg.

If you don't mind refurbs, you can get the Z640 for 34.77 plus shipping HERE. I know that if you do google search for the Justdeals site you can usually find a little coupon to help out even more.

Just a thought

I was about to get these speakers from newegg, but earlier tonight i had to pick up some things from Sams Club, and found these speakers there for $45 after tax. I snatched em up real quick. They only had about 3 or 4 left at the one near me (Houston TX), but I dont know if all Sams carry the Z640's or what. So I recommend checking out your local Sams Club before paying for shipping from somewhere on the internet. An odd place to find such good speakers lol......... but so cheap.
