Picked one of these up for myself... can't wait to test it out... won't have to ditch the 5 free HD-DVD's I got when I got a HD-DVD player a couple years ago, lol.

Same drive is going for $115 shipped at newegg.

If I buy this, are all future BD-movies guaranteed to work? Is the DRM implemented in a JVM so all I have to do is download a new update? Or is there something in the hardware of the player that would cause it to not work?

On PC's any DRM (HDCP and the like) is software based and not hardware based, so yes, everything should work (but you never know).

This particular model is generally bare bones with no software, though mwave's description says it comes with software. So be aware the description may be incorrect.

Fry's has had this drive (retail box) for $99.99 for atleast a month I think. I started to look into building a htpc about a month ago and it was $99.99. And when I finally built my htpc last week, it was still $99.99. Maybe its more expensive now. Call your local frys and product id is #5360088.

its shows as 94.99 but OOS on their website

Oops, I meant the local b&m store. Yeah I noticed they had it for $95 online but it was sold out last week as well. couple of weeks ago when it was in stock online, it was $99 i think.

Stolen from FW:

Newegg
Use $15 off code LGBLURAY15 [Exp 1/18]
Final Price: $109.99 - $15 = $94.99 + Free Shipping + possible Tax - MS live cashback

This is an awesome drive, and a much better deal than the BD LiteOn drive selling for $90 on average. I've seen the LG @ Fry's B&M for as little as $79 AR. I paid significantly more 4 months ago, and don't regret it one bit. Works well on HD DVDs and DVDs. I haven't gotten around to a BD yet.

I haven't tried ripping anything yet, but it played Dark Night perfectly.

Did you have any of the firmware/software issues?

No... I installed the software, it auto updated the software and firmware and everything was fine.
