Minolta has released a $200 rebate for their Maxxum 7d digital SLR camera. Nice thing about this camera, if you own a Maxxum film SLR, all your accessories and lenses will work on this digital model.

Lots of other nice features, but I won't go into that, as this post is about the rebate.

No 'authorized resellers only' that I can see.

As with any MIR, make sure to photocopy all your documents, and for this amount of money, even send it requiring a 'signature confirmation' on delivery to be sure you have the tools to fight the rebate company.

Good luck, and be sure to post any deals you find under this thread so us 'deal squatters' can jump in with you.

This would have been nice last weekend when there was a WorstBuy 10% off deal... Combined with $200 off, would have brought this down to under 1k. Microcenter & Dell are also places to watch for deals on this.

Happy hunting & good luck with the rebate!

Oh. And I've been looking for a deal on this camera for few weeks now. 100% of small 'internet dot com' companies selling the camera for less than $1000, have less than 1 out of 10 on resellerratings.com. Be sure to check out reseller ratings BEFORE buying, to avoid a nasty situation.

Best 'reliable' price so far, before MIR:
Amazon $1240, free shipping++
NEWEGG $1149.99, $8 shipping++

-- = no lens
++ = w/lens

Thanks for the heads up!

I own the Maxxum 7 (film) body and have been waiting for Minolta to start competing in the digitla SLR arena.

Unfortunately, it's cheaper to buy a Nikon or Canon DSLR plus lens and start all over than it is to buy just the Minolta 7d body and keep my existing glass.

If Minolta could get this body to be price competitive I'd be all over it, but I'm afraid I'm about to jump ship to a competitor.

Damn you for teasing me like that! I read it as $200 AR :shocked::laugh:

Good deal nevertheless :thumbsup:

I'm going to agree with that. I just picked up a Rebel XT with a Canon IS lens for about the same price as the Minolta kit, and my beleif is that I can get better pictures with it, or at least equivalent. If you are Ok with a kit lens and don't need any sort of stabilization features, the Nikon or Canon are better values, rebate or not.

But as Op mentioned, for anyone waiting specifically for the Konica-Minolta, or with an array of Minolta brand or fit lenses, this is a great camera. Looks like this is the time to get it.

Minolta bodies are about equivalent to the canon 20D imo..
It has a viewfinder and LCD that's better than the canon 20D actually.
But then again, the Pentax *ist DS has the same class viewfinder and LCD for $550 body. 🙂

Ordered mine Saturday, got it yesterday from Newegg. Now to submit the rebate. I think $960 is pretty good, considering MSRP is still around $1600. I thought I could wait until black friday/xmas... But I have a hole in my pocket. 😀

I just got a Nikon D70 with lens for $899 after 100 rebate.

They are discontinueing this model because the D70s ($300 more) was released... but they released the new firmware for the D70 making the only differences the size of the LCD.

$960 is an extremely good price on this camera.
