not a hot deal, but definitely worth mentioning since it is hard to find these for lower than $5 off the MSRP. i know not everyone that has one bought em online so I think this might be some good news for some. im not sure if it is $20 off all the ipods or certain ones but i know for sure in the austin area BBs that they are having a special on the 10 and 20GB iPods.

for anyone that has already bought one, go digging for that receipt and get your $20 back! :)

a side note, they also discounted the K@zoo so if u know someone that bought one, you might wanna bug them about getting some money back. ;)

or if u were thinking of getting an mp3 player, it looks like now is a good time.

If you happen to work for a school or know someone who does, you can go to the Apple Store and click on "education" and you can get all sizes of the iPod for $30 off.

Also, I realize the item of focus here is the iPod, but:

The k@zoo is a FANTASTIC mp3 player. It's one of the smallest one I have seen, and excellent for use while jogging. Can strap it to your arm (strap included) and you'll forget about it. Sound quality is fantastic, too.

Plus, it's generally one of the cheaper ones for sale, too.

If there's anyone who doesn't mind the older models (mechanical scroll wheel) macwarehouse.com has the 5 gig model for $250 and the 10 gig model for $300 and both come with a free leather case.

I know I sound like an infomercial, but Airborne Next-day shipping is dirt cheap (like 12 bucks). I ordered mine (ten gigs) Wednesday afternoon and got it Thursday morning. The case seems to be the iGlove Leather case (retails at about $26 bucks).

Otherwise smalldog.com had a few factory refurb 5 gig models at $239.

yeah, that is why i have spent thousands online vs buying locally (exceptions are sales or rebates). the reason i bought the iPod locally was in case i had any probs with it, returns would be a cinch. Also, online pricing was about the same as the stores here in town, but then shipping next day or 2 day was ~$20 (ground was free....but i couldnt wait a week. ;)) so i splurged a bit and forked out $432 for it.

However, i didnt stop there, i bought a 4 year plan from BB saying that they would try to remedy the problem i had on my ipod and if they couldnt fix it, they would give me a new one. well, i spoke to 2 reps and they said that "you cant really fix an iPod" since you cant open it. soooo, basically this 4 year plan is a replacement plan comparable to CompUSA's 2 year replacement plan. this is some piece of mind for me since ive been hearing people ask, "what if the battery or HD dies? how do u fix it?". the answer was you were screwed (assuming u were outside of warranty).

so all in all, those were the reasons why i bought locally and that the $20 back i got just took a chunk outta that tax i paid. :)
