WARM: General Motors Ups Warranty Coverage

It's not transferrable from what I hear. If you sell the vehicle it bumps down to 5/60. Doesn't do much for resale that way...
 
Looks to be transferrable and only applies to 2007 models.

I think I need to take another look at that new Saturn AURA.
 
Something seems a little fishy...they mention over and over again "Powertrain" warranty...very explicitly. If I recall, many cars already have a powertrain warranty that is longer than the "standard" warranty (I believe that DCX is like 3/36k and then 7/100k powertrain, but I could be mistaken). If this is the case, I wonder if they changed the standard coverage at all? If not, this seems like it is very misleading.

It applies retroactively to all 2007 models. If your fiance bought a 2006, she's outta luck.

The previous GM warranty was 3 years/36000 miles bumper-to-bumper (i.e., no extension of the powertrain warranty). Cadillac, Saab and Buick (I believe) had (and still have) a 4-year 50k mile b2b warranty. Now all GM models have a 5-year 100k mile powertrain warranty past the b2b warranty.

DaimlerChrysler dropped the 7/70k powertrain warranty in 2006:

I think the powertarin warranty is overrated as very few people will be driving 100000 miles in 5 years (more likely 50000 miles) and GM knows this very well. It is better than what GM currently offers but I seriously doubt it will improve sales very much. If you want a warranty.....buy a Hyundai.

My Nissan warranty would be transferrable to the next owner (I'm not selling it though) without a fee (I believe), and there is no deductible when they honor warranty work either (I've seen other manufacturers require a $100 deductible).

Nice of them to extend their warranty though.

Care to elaborate? I have a friend that has a Kia, and his dad drives it everyday to work 3 hours/day total. I asked him how it's holding up, and he said he has no complaints.
 
My wifes Kia Sedona was half the price of a Toyota of similar setup ($16K to be exact), runs well and goes from A to B with a good warranty.

Really a lot of good information at the comparison link for those who don't understand or thing=k this is 'fishy'.

BTW: Chryslers warranty is only 3/36 INCLUDING POWERTRAIN! By far the worst warranty in the business.

One of the worst cars to be in crash with. That's why they are so cheap...The doors are paper thin. i don't know how people feel safe in any of their crappy a$$ cars.
 
You're talking about the old models.
Kia's new minivan for example is one of the safest in the class.
The other new Kia models have been improved in every way including the crash protection.
 
Powertrain is a gimmck(that stuff better last 100,000 mi otherwise a pure crap product IMHO)..when was the last time you used this..the bumper to bumper warranty is more important...ie covering the components that general fail..electrical, ac, radio etc

I have owned in the last 15yrs..Ford, Infiniti, Nissan x2, Audi, Mercedes, BMW...never used the powertrain portion of a warranty....but I sure have used the other and paid for repairs on electrical, ABS, computer modules, brake issues(not pads, rotors..thats maintenance) etc...
 
GM could have a 20/200k warranty and i still wouldn't buy any of their cars. some of the most regurgitated designs/styles out there.

although i suppose they are a notch above ford.

Seriously, who cares about the Powertrain warranty? They can afford to up it because I'm sure people rarely need it... electrical, A/C, brakes, etc are all prone to fail and need repair way before anything under the powertrain warranty.
 
It's an act of desperation.
The competition is killing them.
Very few people will be swinged by the powertrain warranty gimmick.

Ford is in the same boat.

Ford use to kick ass...Ive always liked their trucks and the old Tbird and mustangs kicked ass (crown vic was nice way back in the day). Then they decided they wanted to blow ass, jumped the price by 30-40K on the Tbird (and discontinued it I think) and I guess from what people are saying, made the trucks suck too. Ive owned fords as old as the 60s and everyone of them has been a very good vehicle. The last ford truck I owned was a 91 though so I dont know where they went from there. Actually I still have that truck, including an 84 (I think) and both are in great shape and still run well. Theyve been used for heavy hauling long trips towing ect. 230K on one over 300K (meter only goes to 99K) on the other. Ill admit work has been done to them...but nothing major like a new tranny or engine. And at times Ill be pulling out two trucks, a dodge or GM that got stuck while trying to pull out a chevy. Could be stupid drivers, or crapy trucks. I almost never see a stuck ford. Corse again this is all the older models...
