Well for those of you that liked or even understood this movie(me of course🙂 ) hurry and get it b4 frys ratchets the damned price back up to 24 or whatever🙂 i think it just came out today.

just came from my loal walmart and it's $19.94.....was at blockbuster and it was a couple dollars more..Blockbuster has the Queer As Folk 6dvd set for $75.99. and they are renting it individually too. I called them about 3 weeks ago and they dind't know anything about this set...if they were even going to have it. That's a pretty good price i think. I preordered mine for 74.99 which included shipping so thought that was good too
 
i dont know, but i dont think $17.99 for a DVD is even a warm deal. YOu can find almost any new dvd for around that price, so why is this any different? i dont mean to thread crap, but it's the truth, and there's no need for 10 different threads a week about each new dvd and the price of each
 
if you don't want to jump through hoops online its a decent deal.

and no, sales on junk dvds for 6.99 don't count for much.

i consider myself to be pretty good at understanding in-depth messages of movies and i'm pretty sure i understtod the movie pretty well, but this movie was not even close to what i expected, Steven spielberg, i thougth would do better than this... the only thing that was okay about the movie was the special effects...
 
i guess this is a spoiler




well if you think the end beings were aliens as kimagurealex does then you also didn't understand it very well. if you were paying attention you would have noticed that everything about these beings screamed ai, not aliens. they networked together, they read davids mind, david is a computer. they have bodies that aren't really possible with biological materials, they seem to have circuitry or mech beneath their skin, they have screen images flash on their faces, they have the judimentary features of a face, the basic humanoid features. after 2000 years of robotic evolution at perhaps a moores law pace it isn't far fetched to think they would look different. not to mention they were compatible with david, could speak to him, and were searching for the spiritual essense of humanity.

you would also notice that anything implausible in the ending is plausible if the advanced ai beings created a virtual world for david out of compassion. if you noticed after they incompacitiated david and basically copied his mind, davids world was unreal from that point on. the beings are shown looking through a floating display perhaps into their vr creation to guide davids path. the blue fairy would obviously have to be made my the ai beings, and the ai being at the end that talks to david does it almost in a parental way. he tells him a fairy tail of sorts and gives him a choice. if they read davids mind, they would have enough data to create monica convincingly.. perhaps for a day. also note how david granted his wish to become a real human.. he cries etc.. obvious simulation.


not to mention that spielberg calls the end beings robots on the dvd special features if you want confirmation.

Yeah, I agree too. This is a film more than a movie. If you don't like independent films much, then you probably wouldn't enjoy or realize the significance of this movie much. It really is a wonderful work of art, though (albeit a very expensive one). Plus, the special effects were awfully cool.
