because a sony is $50 - $100 MORE! KDS 17 and 19 AV series is about the same or BETTER specs than the equivilant Sony E200 or E400 (19 inch model). Both are FD Sony tubes. Oh yeah...KDS has a 3 year express warrenty on their AV series too.

This is a wonderful monitor, very flat and very crisp picture (mom loves it and wants to steal it from me). Bought mine less than six months ago, $269. For $199 it's a steal. I have seen Sony's monitors and the quality is the same. I couldn't see myself spending and extra $100 for the Sony monitor.

this is a decent monitor that I almost bought.

At last I paid $60 more ($30 after rebate) and got Samsung 700NF instead.

$199.98 is a fair price. Save $100-$150 over Sony E200 which is not better than KDS except the brand name. If you want to buy Sony, get G200, not the crap E200 or A200. But G200 is more expensive $400 range a few months ago).

KDS warranty is good also, 90-day exchange. Shipping prepaid by KDS. Check it out on their web.


I choose Samsung 700NF over KDS because:

after rebate, the price difference was $30 4 months ago.
Samsung 700NF has 5BNC connector, and the D-Sub 15pin (?) connector at the back, with a separate 15-pin cable (of course no 5BNC cable included).
KDS Avitron doesn't have separate connector, the 15-pin cable is built-in, which is minor but it just bothers me.

Samsung has higer resolution.

Don't know how big/small the price gap is between two monitor.
You cannot go wrong with either one:
Samsung 700NF or KDS Avitron AV7FT .

p.s. I used to own Dell/Sony 17" Trinitron (equivent to 200GS, $650, in 1998)

p.p.s. I am happy with my Samsung 700NF that I bought 4 months ago.

Staples has it. You can pricematch and use the $40 off coupon to bring it down to $160 + tax. Pretty good deal for a good 17" monitor.

avitron kds are pimp. I gave mine to my gf when i got this here 15" flat panel.

those are awesome monitors. I bought a 2 year old kds avitron 17" for $130 and never regretted it.

Staples purchases of KDS monitors do not qualify for KDS rebates, the only valid stores are Micro Center, Office Depot, and Office Place, per the KDS rebate web page.
