I've had good luck with Kodak, but didn't I see a 100pk spindle of Imation's in Sunday's ads for $39.99? Decent deal from a manufacturer though.

It doesn't get any better than Kodak Gold. They walk all over the competition. However, they normally sell a 200 pack for $130.00, so I'll wait until they have back that in stock, but for anyone who only needs 100, this is a terrific buy.

What are kodak golds good for anyway? Are they good for music or storing data? They are more expensive than any other cd-r's that I have seen, and they are only 74 min not 80.

According to what I have been able to research, Kodak Gold are primarily good for archiving of data. Apparently, the dye or materials in these survive LONG periods of time much better than other types of dyes or materials, particularly under harsh conditions. So these CDs are not for those of you wanting to burn audio CDs or zip off a copy of unreal tournament. I have been scanning and archiving family photos to pass on to my kids when the time is right-- and that's what I'm using them for. I want to make sure that 10 years down the road when I am ready to re-archive them on the medium that comes next (DVDR, probably, or whatever the hell) my pictures will be safe and readable.

If you don't have critical data like family photos or other sorts of stuff that has to be archived safely for long periods of time, these are probably not the best deal for you.

just my $0.02, based on some research I did a while ago

seattle, wouldn't you rather get 210 CDR's for the price of $115 instead of
200 for $130? Unless I'm missing something here.

The silver+gold are great.

kodaks also have a very high reflectivity so they tend to play very well in cd players or other cd units that have trouble reading some cdrs.

kiboko: The Silver+'s are great. I buy them exclusively for both audio and data.

Are these Kodak Gold/Silver capable of overburning to 80 minutes, assuming I have a overburn capable CDR drive and software? If not, does anyone know if Kodak makes 80-minute CD-Rs?

I've tried overburning the Silver/Golds and they only went just a tad over 75 minutes for me using Nero and a Plextor 8432.

Kodak quality manufacturing and the PC dye they use seem to give their products the ability to span pretty any reader i've ever come across without problems. This may not be a big deal if you only focus on making copies/music for yourself. Then you can find any cheap cdr media that is compat with your burner and any of your readers and be happy with it. However, if you need your media to span any reader it will come across then Kodaks are a very sure bet.

They also hold onto their "burn" very, very well. I've had other media (Maxells by Ritek) fail on me to be read in my Toshiba cdrom only three months after burning them. That sucks and is inexcusable.
