There's an MMO called Minions of Mirth that I recently discovered that, as an MMO veteran, I consider a pretty hot deal. Check it out: www.prairiegames.com
What makes this a hot deal in my eyes is the $30 software cost and no monthly fees. The lack of the need to prolong monthly subscriptions allows the developers to craft a very cool game without worrying too much about people threatening to cancel their subscriptions because they are unhappy about some perceived apocalyptic change to their characters.
I've only played MoM for a couple of weeks, so take you may wish to take this with a grain of salt, but I find that MoM offers much of what I wanted from other games. You can fly, you can triple-class, their is a functional "pickpocket" skill for thieves. You can play monsters. There is no grind at all (yet - who knows). It's an open-source game engine, and I like the sound of where that might be heading, so I'm all about donating $30.
The graphics aren't nearly as advanced as many newer games, but it's a decent game. The triple classing allows the creation of far more character concepts than games that force you to stick to a single class. If you like MMOs, but dislike how many companies run their MMOs or simply don't have the time to justify $20/mo, check it out.
