[EDITED] Its a warm deal... +tax of course.... = $53.40...

Still looking for that $35 rebate mentioned below... as for the origins of the drive, there is a justlink and justspeed on the box, which according to CDRLabs.com website is a Ricoh technology, seems Benq uses seemless link technology ??

Its anybody's guess as who makes the drives....

Actually, this could turn out to be quite a little deal. Best Buy has this drive for $69.99 minus $35 in rebates. Buy it at Best Buy, go out to your car, return and pricematch it to Compusa for their $49.99 price and it will end up at around $18 or so....great deal!!

All 40x Buslink cd burners in my local CompUSA are AOpen OEM drives as there is a sticker with JustLink on the retail box.

Has anyone verifed that this is $49.99 at Compusa. If so, the OP might want to change the title to reflect the better price...:)

****I got to looking at this, and the drive he is talking about at Compusa is a 40x, and the drive at Bestbuy is a 48x...my bad..... ****

Would have been nice if the drive was a 48x... but ~$50 upfront without the hassle of rebates/etc... might be worth the 8x difference...

40x to 48x is not much of a difference anyway. my coworkers that all bought those 8x cendynes for $20 looked at me crazy when i told them about the 32x pines being sold at sams for $30. they don't care about that stuff. they have bills to pay, children to raise...
me would like to discuss benq burners though ;)

UPDATE:
Looks like the Buslink RW4048 (40x12x48) is equivalent to the AOPEN 40x12x48 if its says "justlink" and "justspeed" on the box...
ie its a Ricoh mechanism (Check here) but its not necessarily equivalent to the Benq 4048 which uses Seamless link technology but isnt Benq=Acer=Aopen ???

Anyway... seems like a decent drive for the price.... :)

I think the Cendyne deal from last week is better. 40x12x48 for $60 - $30 rebate = $30 at B&M Staples. The one I got is a Lite-On and was highly rated. The deal is good until 11/9/02 so you can still get in on the rebate. By the way, Staples rebates are probably the most reliable ones, and relatively fast, I have ever dealt with.
