Careful, the MX boards really blow hard. Make sure you understand you're NOT getting the best and brightest in graphics technology.

Mwoody: Not sure what your point is. You're saying a $55 graphics card isn't the best one available? Who knew!

This card is, obviously, great for anyone using a lesser card. $55 is a pretty great deal for this card. If you're using a card a couple generations older, this is a relatively cheap upgrade that should give you a significant performance boost.

If I recall correctly, GF4MX boards are actually GF3 technology.

Very deceiving!

Well, certainly, the MX 440 is nowhere near as good as a GF4 4600. But then again, the 4600 will cost you $300, and this is $55.

You will see a HUGE performance boost over your TNT2. You should definitely go for it. There's no other $55 upgrade that would benefit you as much.

This isn't a bad deal though, that's for sure. It even comes with a full version of WinDVD 2002. It's certainly worth it for $55.

"Their english is a little shaky"
what a coincidence! my taiwanese isn't that great also. it's all relative
cracks me up all the shirts and hats in the stores, etc. with asian characters that one shows to their friends and are so surprised when they find out it's gibberish...
and a mx 440 for $55 is a pretty good deal, someone needs to post if they can ACTUALLY find BETTER

Find better?
How about avoid the slow shipping, poor CS, poor RMAs and get one at newegg.

LINKIE

After their jacked up shipping to MI, (almost 10 bucks). It's like only 5 bucks cheaper.

Newegg = $70 w/free shipping
GameVE = $55 w/~10 shipping (fedex saver not ground) and potential hassle and slow shipping.

BTW: Despite the MXs getting mixed reviews, I'm nabbing one for my next sys build... some of us can't afford anything with "TI" in it :)

EDIT: I know the newegg is a chaintech, but does it matter? ;)

i ordered a ti4200 from them and yeah i thought it was slow too. but the thing that was slow was their e-mail confirmation. the same day that i they mailed my confirmation was the same day i got my card. it came within 2 days. that's my only complaint.

GF4 MX are basicly just higher-clocked geforce 2's with better AA & Aniso. Gf4 ti's are programmable core chips, like the geforce 3's. This is a good budget-level card, for an incredible price, but I will wait for NV30 to see what happens to the price charts. If you are making a cheap machine, this will do loads better than a $19 voodoo3 or a $35 kyro 2.
I think the original price point for this was $120-150.

Subject: Re: Your Newegg.com order# blah contains items that are back ordered

sirs, i sent a money order. does this mean i am getting my money back? it was in stock when i ordered it -- i printed the pages and everything... may i/will i get a substitute/alternate? i also noted that (account info) said it was at the warehouse and being prepared for shipment.

i am really confused by the wording in the letter, as i ordered only one item.... i consider myself a reasonable person, and will work this out to ensure an acceptable solution for both parties.

waiting on a reply, thanks,"

people bragging about newegg can step to the rear. i get backordered after getting shipping AND tracking info? they SOLD it is what they did! they are NO better than any other online retailer out there (two three weeks waiting and REFRESHING to catch a "reasonable" deal so i could REORDER the product I HAD ALREADY PURCHASED!)
phooey!

Unclebud, why aren't you using a credit card? Money orders seem such a hassle and worry.

Unclebud: You're not going to get a lot of sympathy here. Many of us AT-ers have spent thousands with Newegg, and consider it one of -- if not THE -- best places to shop online.

I'm sorry you had a problem with your order. I've probably placed 50 or 60 orders with them, and have never had a single problem.

i don't want or NEED anybody's sympathy! i'm saying newegg ain't nothing but the emporor's new clothes
i don't care about somebody else's fifty successful orders, i care about my one lousy one
somebody crabbing in a deal about such-and-such at newegg is such a great deal because it's at newegg :p bbbblllltttt!
and the next time there's a sticky about credit card fraud or identity theft @ the front of the forum knocking deals down, REMEMBER ME.

I got this exact same card from newegg refurb back in march for $95. :)

Great card all-in-all. I can go 1280 x 1024 in MOHAA with no slowdowns, 1600 x 1200 is a bit jerky though. 54XX 3D marks. (XP 1600 and pc2100)

TV-OUT is decent too. I've watched many movies using it.

To put this in perspective, I have an XP 1800+ with PC2100 and a GF3 (regular speed) and I get ~6800 3dmarks. So, you can see that the GF4 MX 440 is a decently speed card and a pretty good deal - it's about par with a GF2 Ultra I believe.

And just to clear it up once again - the GF4 MX is based on GF2 technology, with a GF4 style memory controller. So, it doesn't have any programmable TnL features (like the GF3 or GF4), but instead just the static ones (just like GF1/2). It has fewer texture units (2 I believe, instead of 4 on the GF 1/2/3/4), and to counter this, it has very fast DDR memory. The end result is a card with around GF2 Ultra speeds- a bit faster for older games, a bit slower for newer games.

Pheh. If that was the case, there would be more blunders in their orders than the rarity they encounter. You expect a company to be absolutely perfect, eh? It doesn't matter if thousands upon thousands of orders go through quickly, at a great price, and are delivered promptly - if just ONE messes up, that means the whole company is planning on credit card fraud?
...
Back on topic, this is a pretty decent price. If you consider that these cards are just somewhat better than GeForce2's, you usually can't find GF2's for less than this price. Reasonable enough.

If you can afford it, I'd recommend spending the extra $45 to get a gf4 ti4200. It's the best card you can get for $100 and blows the mx440 away!

Too bad the gf3's haven't dropped in price. What is the deal with that? Newegg wants more for a gf3 than a gf4?!?

NO! only the ones that are taking MY MONEY and wasting MY TIME!

read it again, sherlock. that was a multi-tiered reply
one dude asked why i only use money orders
somebody else referred to their success with newegg orders
wonder if anandtech has the ability to use diagrams :/ so i can spell it out...
still waiting for someone to ACTUALLY link and quit crabbing on dude's deal
ain't got all day now...
