Aiwa TV-F2400

Solesen, I found this in the PC Richards in Bay Plaza (Shopping Center), Bronx, NY 10475.

I've been looking for a medium-to-large-sized television for some time now, and this was one of the better deals I found. The TV is flatscreen and has 1 more A/V input than the equivalent Wega. Unfortunately I couldn't find this particular model at any of the respectable online stores I know of, so I paid local tax. This TV is heavy, but it's not the armored trucks that Wega's are (including the 24"), and the picture quality is nice.

Last week, I almost picked up one of these TV's when the price was $500, so now I thought I'd spend some $$ on a 3-year warranty. That way if the TV dies in 3 years and the model is no longer produced, I'll get a $450 (+ tax) credit toward a new TV. Or if there's a fixable problem, the TV is picked up from my apartment at no extra charge.

I believe the $450 price is now PC Richard's regular price, rather then a limited-time sale price.

I didn't realize that Aiwa makes televisions. How good are they? I live their sound systems.

Bpt8056, I thought that visually, the quality was better than the equivalent Wega. I went to a local Wiz earlier, and asked the salesperson for a direct comparison of the 24" Wega and 24" Aiwa. My roomie, who was there to help me carry my selection if I made one, agreed that the Aiwa had a noticeably better picture. However, if you've got the money and room to spare, I think you can outclass the picture quality by buying the current best 27" Wega (which sells for around $800 right now, barring any hot deals :)).

I have a 24" Wega that I bought last summer, and although no Aiwa flat screens were out at the time, I thought the picture was awesome. However, I have noticed that most stores turn up the contrast waaaay up and the picture quality of TV's on display are not the best it could be... Some may be calibrated better than others, say. I don't know what I'm trying to say, really, that I think it's hard comparing TV's on the fly. That's why it took me so long to decide. You kind of have to go by chance, and then calibrate the TV when you get home using AVIA or whatever to see its true power. That AIWA does look nice though.

I'll stick to Plasma. So far, my home is CRT Radiation Tube Free. And I dont have the blurry vision that I had 3 years ago.

Ah, yes, only on Anandtech could a discussion about a $450 Aiwa television set turn into a discussion about the qualities of plasma screens and $8,000 displays.

PC Richards is a NY based chain store - mostly on Long Island and NYC. I've also seen the Aiwa sets at The Wiz, and understand that they are manufactured by Sony.
